BOULDER, Colo. (April 13, 2018) — In the last year, slacklining in Boulder has gone from an outlawed activity to the celebrated center of attention in the recently renovated Tantra Park. From 5-6:30 p.m. on May 4, the City of Boulder will host an official opening for the south Boulder park that features a newly installed slackline course and modern play structure.

“We’re thrilled to see Boulder join the many other communities around the country that have welcomed slackline courses in public parks,” said Frankie Najera, marketing and events director at Boulder-based Slackline Industries.

A handful of Slackline Industries athletes will be at the event to demonstrate what’s possible in the park and to help new-comers find their balance. The slackline course in Tantra Park, comprised of four permanent in-ground posts, can accommodate up to five slacklines between 24 and 100 feet in length.

“Slacklining is so much more than an off-day for climbers now,” said Najera, “It’s a sport with Olympic ambitions, it’s a widely recognized cross-training tool and it’s a developing area of physical therapy. Best of all, it’s just fun.”

Although Tantra Park will be the only greenspace in Boulder with a purpose-built slackline course, all of the city’s public parks allow slacklining using designated trees.  A summary of rules and information using trees as slackline support is available on the city’s website here: https://bouldercolorado.gov/parks-rec/tantra-park.

The majority of the funding required for this project was provided by the City of Boulder and Slackline Industries. The remaining $2,700 was raised through a local crowd-funding campaign.

“This is the first time a private company, a local authority, and community have come together to build a park like this,” said Ricardo Bottome, CEO of Slackline Industries. “It’s going to be an amazing community resource and we’re really happy to sponsor it. We commend the city for helping to make it all possible and our amazing group of local slackliners for helping push it forward.”
