From a new line of ultralight backpacks to reimagined classics, Gregory leads the pack in design and technology spring 2018

July 20, 2017

Gregory redesigns flagship pack series, sets new standard in ultralight packs, introduces new technology in luggage for the active traveler.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Building on 40 years of crafting the best-carrying backpacks on the market, Spring 2018 Gregory will unveil a new line that takes a collective step forward in gear tailored for the full spectrum of adventurers.

Gregory starts with a complete redesign of its flagship backpacking series, the Baltoro and women’s Deva, ensuring it continues to set the benchmark for multi-day backcountry travel. It then builds on its overall collection with a line of ultralight packs, starting at 2.3-pounds, that truly offer the Gregory standard for carry and comfort. Recognizing that not all packs get to see the backcountry, Gregory is also adding a new luggage series with features specifically built for the active- and outdoor-oriented traveler.

Gregory will unveil the line at booth 12017 at the Outdoor Retailer, July 26-29, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the company is also based.

The standard for backcountry travel: Baltoro and Deva

Gregory’s best-selling premium pack, and one of the best selling backpacking packs on the market, the Baltoro and women’s Deva, takes pinnacle design to the next level for Spring 2018 with an upgraded, lighter suspension system, a detailed feature set, and lighter, more durable fabrics. The upgraded Response A3 Suspension System cuts weight and increases comfort with the Auto Angle Adjust (A3) hipbelts and shoulder harnesses, 7001 aluminum frame and breathable Matrix Ventilated Backpanel. New materials, such as the 210D Honeycomb Cryptorip Nylon used in the body, reduces pack weight while increasing durability. The end result is a 25-percent reduction in weight and a more comfortable, breathable pack.

A smarter feature set includes increased water protection with a waterproof hipbelt pocket and custom-fit rain cover located under the top lid, a front stash pocket for easy access to gear on the trail and the Sidewinder Bottle Holster that can be tucked away when not in use. An enhance silhouette gives the pack a sleek look, and enlarged hip belt pockets accommodate standard phone sizes. This is all in addition to the full feature set of the original packs, including the full body U-zip opening for unrestricted access to the main compartment, and easy-to-use removable daypack (which doubles as a hydration sleeve for your reservoir) for day trips and summit bids. The Baltoro and Deva are available in three capacities (85- to 60-liters), MSRP ranges from $349.95 to $299.95.

2.5-Pound ultralight packs that carry like a Gregory

Spring 2018, Gregory applies its acclaimed standard for fit and carry to the ultralight backpack category with the brand new Optic and women’s Octal. The result is a series of packs that weigh between 2.3- and 2.5-pounds, yet still carry comfortably enough to earn the Gregory name. That is thanks to the energy efficient Aerospan Suspension System and high-tech, durable fabrics. The Aerospan Suspension System balances comfort and efficiency thanks to an ultralight 7001 aluminum perimeter frame. The frame is paired with a dual-density, ventilated backpanel and leaf-spring lumbar pad, which efficiently transfers the pack load. Using body-mapping techniques to target friction and impact points allowed Gregory to eliminate hot spots without having to use excess padding. Additional features include a removable top lid, custom fit rain cover that stows in the top pocket and front stretch mesh pocket and water bottle stow. The Optic and Octal are available in two capacities (58- to 45-liters), MSRP $209.95 and $189.95.

Travel luggage truly built for active people

The new Divide Travel Series for the active traveler features Gregory’s proprietary Quadro 4×4 wheel technology and unique ActiveShield compartment. The Quadro 4×4 spherical wheel system rolls easily in any direction so you can roll your bag upright, or pull it from behind. ActiveShield is a unique, vapor- and odor-resistant TPU coated compartment inside the bag that separates clean clothes and gear from dirty. It holds anything from wet ski boots fresh off the slopes, a sandy rash guard, or sweaty shoes and shorts from a trail run.

The three case series includes the Quadro Roller, a soft-sided roller designed with a reinforced lightweight composite construction that strikes a balance between weight savings and reliable gear protection; and the Quadro Hardcase, a gear hauling hardcase constructed from a flexible thermoplastic material with impressive impact strength. Both the Quadro Roller and Hardcase feature Gregory’s Quadro 4×4 sphere wheel technology.  The third case, the Split-Case Roller Duffel, is a semi rigid roller made with reinforced composite construction and over-sized two-wheel design, so you can drag, pull and toss it with confidence. All three cases feature the ActiveShield compartment, and are available in 32- and 22-inch options. MSRP ranges from $169.95 to $289.95.
