Gregory Baltoro, Deva Win Backpacker Magazine Editor’s Choice 25th Anniversary Hall of Fame Award

March 12, 2018

New Baltoro, women’s Deva packs rise to the top amongst the best equipment for hiking and backpacking.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (March 12, 2018) – One of the best-selling and best-carrying backpacks on the market, the Gregory Baltoro and its women’s-specific counterpart the Deva, were chosen as recipients of the first-ever Backpacker Magazine Editor’s Choice 25th Anniversary Hall of Fame Award. After testing thousands of products over a quarter century, this coveted award goes to perennial standouts in the hiking and backpacking category. The Baltoro is one of two products to be honored with the award in this year’s Spring Gear Guide, though Backpacker will continue to recognize standout products throughout the anniversary year.

The award is announced as Gregory launches the newest edition of the Baltoro and Deva, more than a decade after the packs first launched in 2006. Over the years, Gregory has added and improved details but the packs have always represented the pinnacle of design, fit and comfort, a guarantee upon which Gregory has built its reputation.

The latest iteration includes a lighter, upgraded Response A3 Suspension System with 7001-aluminum frame for pack stability, Matrix Ventilated Backpanel for increased breathability and comfort, and Auto Angle Adjust (A3) hipbelt and shoulder harness. The A3 hipbelt and shoulder harness automatically adapt to different body geometries for a customized fit. They also move independently from each other for a dynamic and stable ride, a fact one Backpacker test editor called out in the review:

“I hauled 50 pounds on treks in New Zealand, the Grand Canyon, and California’s Trinity Alps, and I never got sore hips,” the editor wrote. “The padded harness and dynamic movement takes the sting out of long days with big loads.”

This year’s award joins an already impressive list of accolades from Backpacker Magazine for previous versions of the Baltoro and Deva, including an Editor’s Choice Award in 2008 and an Editor’s Choice Gold Award in 2015.

“Gregory prides itself on being an innovator and setting the bar for pack comfort and design,” said John Sears, Vice President of Design and Development at Gregory. “There are few tests in the market that put gear through the paces the way the team at Backpacker does, so winning an Editor’s Choice Hall of Fame Award speaks to our product’s longevity and experience in the market. It means a ton to our team.”
