Growing Growth

March 6, 2018

Vermont Governor and Darn Tough Vermont CEO Sit Down to Discuss the Company’s Future and Vermont Economy

Northfield, VT. (March 6, 2018) – With a focus on ways to strengthen the Vermont economy, Governor Phil Scott visited Northfield-based Darn Tough last week to talk business, and more specifically, socks. The fastest-growing American manufacturer of premium performance, outdoor and lifestyle socks, Darn Tough Vermont has made significant impacts and contributions to the state’s economy by being the one of the larger employers in the Green Mountain State. On a trajectory of unstoppable growth, conversations between President and CEO Ric Cabot and Governor Scott quickly turned to what’s next for the sock manufacturer.

Cabot and Governor Scott sat down to outline several of the plans and goals for the booming company. From expanding its existing 52,000 square foot mill in Northfield to increase manufacturing and additional office space to house the growing sales, marketing, customer service and design teams, Darn Tough is also expecting to double its current workforce to approximately 500 people by 2022. This would allow the brand to double their revenue over the same period and open capacity to produce 15 million pairs of socks.

“Vermont has been an incredible inspiration for active lifestyle brands like Darn Tough to operate in the state, with its incredible access to outdoor recreation and the quality of life that goes with living and working in our close-knit communities,” said Cabot.  “Like Governor Scott, Darn Tough remains deeply committed to our part in growing state’s economy while driving our own growth exponentially and demonstrating that it is possible to thrive as an American manufacturer right here in Vermont. As a top state employer, we are also interested in finding solutions on how to attract and maintain the level of talent we have at both factory and management levels. Our retention is incredible with many of our mill employees having been with us for decades and in some cases, generations. As part of Cabot Hosiery Mills, thirteen years in, Darn Tough may make a compelling case study in how businesses from start-ups to larger corporations can thrive in our state.”

Following the visit to Darn Tough, Governor Scott continued his tour around the state to other to discuss the state’s future growth for both the economy and young population retention.
