United By Blue and Lonely Whale Join Forces to Create Awareness For Oceans Across the Globe

The two ocean conservation brands are teaming up on Blue Friday and releasing a limited edition run of ocean-inspired, ocean-friendly products.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2017) – United By Blue (UBB), the sustainable outdoor apparel brand with a mission to remove a pound of trash from the earth’s oceans and waterways for every product sold, is teaming up with Lonely Whale (LW), a connector and incubator for courageous ideas that drive impactful market and policy change on behalf of our ocean. The two conservation groups are using their combined platforms to raise awareness and empathy for our ocean and to inspire action for measurable impact.

The collaboration was founded on a mutual respect for our oceans and is strengthened by nationwide action raising awareness for water conservation. Lonely Whale will be supporting Blue Friday, UBB’s Black Friday alternative and a nationwide initiative that encourages individuals to get outside for one hour to pick up trash in their neighborhood or local park in lieu of Black Friday shopping.

“With this collaboration, we had such a beautiful platform to design products that told a greater story — and that’s something I think customers will really appreciate. From the materials we sourced, to our hand-drawn details, we put a lot of thought in the product to tell an ocean awareness story that both Lonely Whale and United By Blue strongly stand behind,” says UBB’s Head of Product, Joanna Linton.

LW and UBB decided to symbolize their relationship with a limited edition run of UBB x LW candles and bandanas. Inspired by a mutual respect for the ocean, the hand-poured soy wax candles capture the refreshing scent of saltwater. The 100% organic cotton bandanas feature a whale print celebrating the water and the whales who call it home. The collaboration will expand in 2018 with an ocean-inspired T-shirt, five panel hat, and canvas pouch.

Lonely Whale is dedicated to bringing people closer to the world’s oceans through education and awareness. They’ve motivated thousands of people to stop using plastic straws through their #stopsucking challenge, which aims to cut back on the amount of plastic straws winding up in our oceans.

Since its founding in 2010, United By Blue has removed 1,046,530 pounds of trash from the world’s oceans and waterways through company-organized cleanups. The company has hosted 207 cleanups in 27 states and Canada. UBB and Lonely Whale share a common goal: creating empathy for our oceans and inspiring action to keep them clean.
