United By Blue Opens New Store and Outdoor Inspired Cafe

November 16, 2017

The outdoor brand’s flagship location includes an expanded coffee bar, additional retail, and food offerings reflective of the brand and culture

PHILADELPHIA, PA (THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2017) – United By Blue (UBB), the sustainable outdoor apparel brand with a mission to remove a pound of trash from the earth’s oceans and waterways for every product sold, announces today their move into a new flagship store. The pending LEED Platinum certified space houses an expanded retail section and coffee bar, and the brand’s first ever cafe. It is located just north of their headquarters in Old City, Philadelphia.

Over the past few years, the UBB product line and team has grown dramatically and the need for a larger space has also arisen. “The goal all along has been to expand our physical presence into a space where we could fit our entire product line – something we struggled to do in our previous flagship,” says Mike Cangi, Co-founder and Brand Director of UBB.

The outdoor brand’s new flagship store has put a very strong focus on sustainability, community-driven retail, and experiential shopping by building two reclaimed wood cabins, wall-to-wall reclaimed hardwood floors, and floor-to-ceiling nature graphics. Sustainability being at the core of UBB’s mission, the space is outfitted with energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, Energy Star appliances, and low-flow water fixtures (toilets, sinks, and dishwasher use up to 60% less water than standard fixtures).

“Every piece of wood in this space has a story. We were very intentional with who we sourced from and are very proud to join that with the UBB story,” adds Cangi. “We felt like we were at the point where we could justify building a space that takes in our entire sustainability mind-set and apply that to a full menu as well.”

The space is triple the size of their earlier store and features an expanded coffee bar with rotating coffee and drink beverages on tap, fair trade coffee roasts, and pastries from local vendors. The BYOB cafe itself is very aligned with the brand and reflected in the menu with pulled bison sandwiches (a hallmark of the business on the retail side), a catfish sandwich (an extension of the brand’s waterway cleanups), and more outdoor-inspired salads, bowls, wraps, and sandwiches. There is indoor and outdoor seating for 50+.

“We never thought that a regular apparel store, or a store just with apparel, would be enough of an engagement with the community. Coffee initially gave us that hook and that engagement,” says Brian Linton, UBB’s Founder + CEO. “Coffee, and now our cafe, is about community much more than a clothing store is. We are excited to share that with Philadelphia.”

The store and cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7AM-7PM, and Saturday and Sunday 8AM-7PM. Breakfast will be available all day.
