Bedrock Sandals Celebrates 15 Years with the Limited-Edition Metamorphic Collection

/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Bedrock Sandals is celebrating 15 years of making adventure footwear with the launch of the Metamorphic Collection, a limited-edition birthday drop inspired by the brand’s geology roots, archive artwork, and the slow, scrappy evolution of a sandal company built under pressure.

Founded in 2011 by geology grads Dan Opalacz and Nick Pence while working AmeriCorps river restoration jobs in Northern California, Bedrock started with a simple problem: the sandals available at the time weren’t holding up to long, wet days counting salmon and moving through rivers. So they started tinkering with their own, using early Vibram® Gumlite soles designed for cobblers.

Thankfully, the sandals have come a long way from there. One might even say they metamorphosed.

In the years since, Bedrock has operated out of sailboats, Vanagons, garages, and a small cabin in Northern California before eventually putting down roots in Missoula, Montana. Fifteen years later, the company has grown into a proper footwear brand, but the geology fieldwork never really left. From the foundational name “Bedrock” to the niche easter egg puns baked into the product line, the solid layers beneath our feet continue to inspire the brand’s work.

Cairns mark the way on lesser-traveled trails. Rockhounding is the kind of slow, eyes-down adventure anyone can fall into. Tourmaline, the limited Metamorphic colorway, is a gemstone formed over long periods of heat and pressure. It occurs naturally in nearly every color and even generates an electrical charge when squeezed.

And the Mountain Clog? That one may have wandered off the geology trail, but a great name is a great name.

The Metamorphic Collection gets its name from metamorphic rocks, which don’t form quickly. They begin as something else entirely and change slowly under pressure. The collection’s artwork, created by Bedrock’s in-house artist Matt, follows a similar process, pulling sketches from old notebooks and archive materials and reassembling them into something new.

The limited Metamorphic sandal drop includes Cairn Evo and Cairn 3D Pro models in the Tourmaline colorway. Only 500 pairs were made, and each pair comes with a custom Bedrockin’ Archive Towel, a PackTowl printed with Matt’s collage artwork. Consider it a birthday gift.

The rest of the Metamorphic Collection includes a sticker pack, tee, and standalone Bedrockin’ Archive PackTowl , available separately for anyone who wants a piece of the party.
