FELDKIRCHEN-WESTERHAM (29 October 2019) — Beginning this Fall, Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) will begin to use GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ fabrics and product technologies in its collections.
Carhartt WIP was founded in 1989 as a licensed division of Carhartt, the original workwear brand that was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1889. Initially created to serve European consumers by carefully adapting and modifying Carhartt products, the brand now creates two seasonal collections a year, offering a contemporary design perspective for a global audience. Carhartt WIP is also known for its collaborative approach, which has seen it supporting creatives and independents from the worlds of music, skateboarding and contemporary art.
Carhartt Work In Progress takes iconic Carhartt product and refines the design and style for a discerning audience, while remaining true to the origins of the original workwear brand.
For more than 40 years the GORE-TEX brand has been a leading innovator of waterproof and breathable performance apparel. With the introduction of the GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ brand, Gore offers products that are made for situations when comfort and all-around performance take priority over waterproofness. Carhartt WIP will debut with GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ garments, gloves and hats.
“The debut of Carhartt WIP apparel with GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ product technologies, beginning in Fall 2019 is an exciting partnership opportunity for two brands with such strong legacies,” said Rick Macdonald, European Sales Leader at the W. L. Gore & Associates Fabric Division. ”The collections will feature Gore’s innovative, forward-thinking approach to what is possible in outdoor fabric technology, paired with Carhartt WIP’s strong sense of design and stellar reputation.”
The Carhartt WIP products featuring GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ product technologies will be available to consumers starting in March 2020.
About Carhartt WIP
Established in 1989 by Edwin Faeh, Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) takes the rough and rugged spirit of original Carhartt workwear, and refines and adapts it for a new audience — one appreciative of considered, durable garments, but also a contemporary design perspective. Over the years, Carhartt WIP’s clothes have become counter-cultural signifiers, in the techno clubs of Detroit and Berlin, and on the streets of Paris, London and Tokyo. Meanwhile, the brand has supported and collaborated with like-minded independents in an array of cultural spheres, spanning European club-culture to Hip-Hop, skateboarding to contemporary art. www.carhartt-wip.com @carharttwip
