Leave No Trace is looking for mission-driven leaders to join its all-volunteer Board of Directors

Boulder, CO /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Leave No Trace is seeking accomplished, mission-driven leaders to join its all-volunteer Board of Directors. This is an opportunity to help guide one of the world’s leading environmental nonprofits as we advance a bold vision: establishing Leave No Trace as the global standard of care for the outdoors through science, education, and partnership. We are looking for experienced nonprofit board leaders and executives whose expertise can help strengthen the organization during an important period of growth and innovation.

We are particularly interested in individuals with leadership experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Finance: Senior financial leaders with board-level experience overseeing organizational financial health, risk management, and long-term sustainability.
• Outdoor Industry: Executives and leaders from the outdoor or related sectors who can help cultivate strategic partnerships and expand Leave No Trace’s influence.
• Nonprofit Fundraising & Philanthropy: Experienced nonprofit board members with a demonstrated record of major gift fundraising, donor cultivation, campaign leadership, and organizational advancement.

Serving on the Leave No Trace Board is an opportunity to help shape the future of conservation education while supporting an organization whose work reaches communities, public lands, businesses, educators, and outdoor enthusiasts around the globe.

Where We Are Going: Outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism continue to grow rapidly worldwide. With that growth comes an increasing need for trusted guidance grounded in science. Leave No Trace is entering an exciting new chapter, with a long-term vision to become the Standard of Care for the Outdoors, the globally recognized framework for responsible interaction with natural environments.

We believe lasting conservation happens when individual behavior change is paired with institutional adoption, making stewardship part of how people experience the outdoors every day.

Board Service: The Leave No Trace Board of Directors provides strategic leadership, fiduciary oversight, and long-term vision for the organization. Board members serve as ambassadors, advisors, philanthropists, and champions for our mission. We are seeking leaders eager to contribute their experience, perspective, networks, and passion to guide the organization into its next chapter.

Board Member Expectations:

Board members are expected to:

• Uphold the mission, vision, values, and fiduciary responsibilities of the organization.
• Bring previous nonprofit board experience; prior nonprofit board service is required.
• Serve as ambassadors for Leave No Trace within their professional and personal networks.
• Actively participate in fundraising, donor cultivation, and strategic relationship building.
• Attend two in-person and two virtual board meetings each year.
• Serve on at least one standing committee.
• Commit to a three-year term.
• Dedicate approximately five hours each month to board service.
• Make an annual philanthropic contribution reflective of their personal capacity.
• Support sound governance, financial stewardship, confidentiality, and ethical leadership.

*Board service is voluntary and non-compensated. Board members are expected to cover their own travel and other expenses associated with attending board meetings and related events.
