Swenson and Gómez Villafañe Take Top Honors at 2026 SBT GRVL® Presented by Wahoo

2,750 riders and racers celebrate gravel cycling, community and competition today in Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Springs, Colo., (June 28, 2026) –Keegan Swenson (4:36:20) and Sofía Gómez Villafañe (5:25:01) claimed victory today at SBT GRVL® presented by Wahoo as 2,750 cyclists took on Routt County’s iconic ‘champagne gravel’ roads. Returning to a one-day format, the sold-out event brought a full field of riders, racers, fans and energy back to Yampa Street in downtown Steamboat Springs.

In the Elite Men’s race, Nathan Spratt (Ventum + Voler), Adam Roberge (Felt UN1TD) and John Borstelmann (Ventum) established an early four-minute advantage coming out of Cow Creek at mile 10. A large chase group cut the gap to two minutes heading into mile 35 at Wahooligan Pass, where the field began to break apart. Coming out of the punchy and challenging 6.25-mile section, a new lead group formed with Keegan Swenson (Specialized Off-Road), Henry Nelson (Lunchbox Racing), Cobe Freeburn (Trek Driftless) and Roberge, who pulled away from a chase group comprised of Spratt, Alexey Vermeulen (ENVE), Pete Stetina (GRVL PRVTR) and John Keller (GRVL PRVTR).

The lead group continued to extend its advantage to over three minutes before Swenson launched a decisive solo attack near the SRAM Oasis at mile 80. He built his lead to two and a half minutes by Zipp Cow Creek and rode alone to the finish solo for the win claiming his fourth SBT GRVL® title.

The Elite Women started five minutes after the men and delivered an aggressive, fast-moving race from Wahooligan Pass to the finish. Sarah Lange (Aegis x LOE) pushed the pace over the climb alongside Sofía Gómez Villafañe (Specialized Off-Road) and Cecily Decker (PAS Racing). After the pass, Danni Shrosbree (Rapha Cycling Club), Lauren De Crescenzo (LDC LLC p/b Argonaut), Kylee Hanel (Cervélo), Paige Onweller (Trek Driftless) and Lauren Stephens (Next Step p/b Aegis) joined the lead group.

The riders traded attacks, but none held until Lange broke away near the SRAM Oasis at mile 80. She maintained a solo advantage through Zipp Cow Creek as Gómez Villafañe led the chase followed by Stephens 30 seconds behind and then Onweller 30 seconds behind Stephens. Gómez Villafañe charged across the gap, caught Lange in the closing miles and then sprinted to notch her second SBT GRVL® title.

Following unhealthy air quality the previous evening, conditions improved overnight, allowing SBT GRVL® to proceed as scheduled. As a proactive measure to limit participants’ potential exposure to anticipated afternoon smoke from regional wildfires in Utah and Colorado, organizers adjusted cutoff times for the amateur field on all courses and redirected some riders to shorter routes. The elite men’s and women’s races were unaffected.

The day also showcased SBT GRVL®’s commitment to expanding access, developing the next generation of cyclists and building community across the sport. Among the more than 2,700 riders were 24 Junior Scholarship Program recipients from around the country. The new initiative is designed to help young riders enter the world of gravel racing and connect with the broader cycling community. The GRVL® Femmes program also returned for its second year with over 120 Femmes, creating a welcoming and empowering environment for amateur female cyclists by promoting team-based racing and community support.
