January 30, 2019

Sporty designs meet tried-and-true performance and durability

Northfield, VT. (January 30, 2019)Darn Tough Vermont, the fastest growing American manufacturer of premium performance outdoor and lifestyle socks, is serving up a Fall 2019 collection that marries the serious business of sock functionality with industry-leading style. With a singular focus to knit the world’s best sock in multiple categories and for a wide variety of users, Darn Tough continues to deliver the goods from ski to run and from hike to everyday lifestyle. Next season brings category-specific styles forward with undeterred dedication to comfort, durability, and fit for all outdoor endeavors.

“With our commitment to perfect on perfection, our team takes everything into consideration when it comes to the science of building a better sock,” says Ric Cabot, President and CEO of Darn Tough Vermont. “We scrutinize the way a person interacts and uses a sock – continually fine tuning our process and approach. We can make those tweaks/adjustments in real-time, which is unique to Darn Tough since we own the entire process under one roof.”

Fresh off the knitting machines, Darn Tough’s Mill in Northfield, Vermont, the Sock Capital of the World, is doubling-down on their award-winning hike socks following extensive research and design work. Rounding out the highlights for Fall 2019, the team marries their maniacal attention to knitting detail with a heavy dose of Darn Tough’s interpretation of future trends. The season’s collection features plenty of playful designs, pops of color and styles created with luxurious merino — all guaranteed for life.

Hike/Trek Category

In the mission to deliver sock perfection, Darn Tough set out to improve their overall best-selling hike sock. Over thirty prototypes were considered, scrutinized and tested in the effort to refine this category leader, and the brand did not take the project lightly. With data collected from warranty socks and several prototypes trail-tested by thru-hikers, the updated Fall 2019 Light Hiker Micro Crew Light Cushion features new technical standards in the Hike/Trek category.

To maximize breathability, mesh zones were added on the top of the foot to work with flex zones for improved fit, while reinforced cushioning extending over the Achilles was added for increased comfort in a hiking boot. But it’s the smooth, narrow 1×1 knitting up the leg that keeps this sock perfectly in place, even after weeks on the trail.

Drawing inspiration from a number of sources including trend reports and insights from die-hard Darn Tough fans, the introduction of playful imagery is seen throughout the men’s and women’s Hike lines. With the very successful Fall 2018 debut of the Men’s ABC Hike sock, the nature and animal influence will carry forward in the Fall 2019 collection. While paying close attention to the evolving retro colorways and trending prints for the upcoming season, the Darn Tough product and design team made sure to complement every hikers’ style.

Vertical Category

Darn Tough is also cranking up the tech features in its Vertical collection with the introduction of a new light-cushion ski sock with a design-driven aesthetic. When in the backcountry, function on the way up determines performance on the way down. The Outer Limits Over the Calf Padded Light Cushion aims to improve both. Taking a cue from the design of socks in the Tactical Collection, mesh is extended up the back of the leg of this ski sock for improved ventilation and wicking. Light cushion under foot provides just a bit of warmth and padding for drop after drop on the descent. In addition, a streamlined cushion panel along the shin prevents boot bump and shin bang with just the right amount of lightweight protection. From backcountry turn to hot laps at the resort, what goes up, should come down and this sock is dialed in for both.

Known for creative prints and pops of color and mountain inspiration, the new Alpenglow, Northstar, and Glacier Stripe styles charge forward in dominating Darn Tough’s presence in the ski sock category.

Lifestyle Category

On trend with nature inspiration and retro throw backs, the newest additions to the lifestyle collection bring more stand-out patterns in Darn Tough’s Light & Luxe Yarn. Light, soft, luxurious and designed to the brand’s relentless durability standards, these new styles bring the Darn Tough Vermont guarantee to everyday wear.

The new Fall 2019 collection, and the entire Darn Tough Vermont line, will be on display at Winter Sports Market (WSM) January 27th through 29th in Denver, at the Outdoor Retailer Snow Show (booth #42021) from January 30th through February 1st in Denver, and at FN Platform from February 5th-7th, 2019 in Las Vegas.
