Award-winning gear on display at Switchback Spring
TORONTO (June 27, 2026) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ — Mountain Equipment is proud to announce that two of its latest products have earned top honors at the European Outdoor Awards, with the Xenith I Sleeping Bag winning in the Bikepacking category and the Tupilak 37+ Pack taking the top prize in Climbing. The recognition underscores the brand’s continued commitment to advancing technical performance at the intersection of lightweight design and real-world durability.
The Xenith I, a superlight sleeping bag built for fast-moving alpinists and long-distance bikepackers, is the lightest of the new updated Xenith collection of four high performance lightweight sleeping bags. The jury praised its innovative Hexwave baffle construction, noting it “offers comfort for those who want to go light and fast.”
At 500g, the Xenith I combines 196g of 950 fill power, water-resistant, ultrasonically cleaned Muscovy down with PLASMA™ 10D fabrics to deliver exceptional insulation in an exceptionally light package. The Hexwave construction, adapted from Mountain Equipment’s Xenith Jacket, provides superior down stabilization over traditional stitch-through baffles, resulting in a more consistent drape and improved warmth-to-weight ratio. With a Good Night’s Sleep Guaranteed rating of 1°C, the Xenith I is designed for three-season and shoulder-season use.
The Tupilak 37+ is the result of more than a decade of refinement on one of alpinism’s most trusted platforms. The jury recognized “how the Tupilak pack pushes alpine pack design forward,” highlighting its “successful balance between extremely low weight, durability and technical functionality, achieved without compromising reliability.”
Building on prototypes proven by Mountain Equipment’s climbing team, mountain guides, and staff across some of the world’s most demanding terrain, the Tupilak 37+ employs ALUULA® 97 and 115 composite fabrics which are waterproof, highly UV resistant, and rated to 300N tear strength. At 800g (500g stripped), it features a unified one-piece front and side panel construction, integrated cowl-lid closure with aluminum Mk2 Grappler™ buckle, and fully removable components for on-demand minimalism across mission types.
Along with the Tupilak 37+, Mountain Equipment is introducing a completely new range of packs for Spring 2027 including a larger Tupilak 45+, Makalu and Direkt packs with similar designs to the Tupilak, but with different features and the Transcend line of lightweight trekking and day hiking packs.
Both award-winning products will be on display at Switchback Spring in New Orleans, June 15-18 (Booth 911). To make an appointment to see them and the complete Mountain Equipment Spring 2027 collection contact your territory sales representative or Anna Nikolaus at anna.nikolaus@oscnainc.com.
