Mustang Survival Begins Rolling Out PFDs Approved Under New Harmonized Standard

July 10, 2018

Kids PFD collection receives an update for the season

Bellingham, WAMustang Survival®, the North American brand known for innovative solutions for the most demanding marine environments, is pleased to announce the company is beginning to introduce PFDs to the market that meet new flotation standards in both Canada and the U.S. On display at this month’s ICAST trade show (booth #3813) in Orlando, FL, July 11-13, Mustang Survival will debut their new harmonized standard approved products including the newly updated kid’s PFD line for 2019 and the innovative Khimera™ Dual Flotation PFD in a new color option.

To improve products and streamline regulations for PFDs, Canada and the United States have been working towards harmonized PFD standards to more effectively convey safety information. A decade in the making, this work has led to a new performance classification system that replaces the old PFD type code system used by the U.S. Coast Guard.

“We all know that the best PFD is the one you wear, so we focused our contributions to the new standards on changes that would increase the likelihood of people wearing a PFD. These standards allow us to better serve the water enthusiast with novel materials and improved fit factors,” explains Jason Leggatt, Mustang Survival’s general manager. “Working closely with Transport Canada and the U.S. Coast Guard as part of the standards technical panel, we’re excited to make some great updates to the Lil’ Legends platform that will improve comfort and durability. The new standards also allow the Lil’ Legends platform to be approved and available in Canada for 2019, and for Canadians to finally be able to purchase kid’s PFDs without head pillows for in-water activities.”

When it came to updating the kid’s PFD collection, the team at Mustang Survival looked at every aspect to ensure they would not only save lives, but also keep the brand’s youngest fans comfortable. A new, ultra-soft, stain-resistant and incredibly durable fabric in vivid colors is the focal point of the line. The Rev Vest (MSRP $50) is ideal for playing around or in the water, while Lil’ Legends (MSRP $60) provides head support for excellent safety. Both feature segmented foam panels for improved mobility and reduced ride-up.

Available now, the Khimera dual flotation PFD (MSRP $199) is also approved under the new harmonized standard. The Khimera features the new labeling and can be sold and used in both countries. For 2019, the Khimera will be available in a new colorway – red.

These products, and more, can be seen at this month’s ICAST trade show (booth #3813), July 11-13, 2018, in Orlando. Mustang Survival products are available at more than 600 retailers across Canada and the U.S., and can be found by using the dealer locator on MustangSurvival.com.
