Boss Outdoors Releases Next-Generation Copper Shot

New copper shot shows measurable gains in penetration and pattern consistency
Michigan, USA (January 23, 2026) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ — Boss Outdoors today announced the release of its next-generation copper shot, representing a major advancement in non-toxic shot performance through proprietary forming and surface-optimization techniques.
Unlike conventional copper shot, which often sacrifices downrange energy and pattern efficiency, Boss’s new copper shot is engineered to retain velocity, fly truer, and penetrate more effectively at extended ranges – narrowing the historical performance gap between copper and traditional lead alternatives.
Ballistic gel testing demonstrated that Boss #3 copper shot achieved the same penetration at 60 yards as comparable steel shot delivered at 40 yards. Compared to the copper shot Boss brought to market in late 2025, the new generation also produced tighter patterns and more consistent penetration at 40 yards, demonstrating measurable improvements in energy retention and shot stability rather than incremental refinement.
These performance gains stem from Boss’s proprietary copper shot forming and surface-engineering process. Using this process, Boss precisely controls shot geometry and surface characteristics to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve flight stability. Boss Outdoors has filed a patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office covering the copper shot forming and surface-engineering technology used in the new generation shot.
“These results are not incremental—they are structural,” said Brandon Cerecke, Founder of Boss Outdoors. “Copper has always had the potential to be the best non-toxic shot material. The challenge has been economically manufacturing and finishing it in a way that allows it to equal or beat the performance and value our patented Copper Plated Bismuth once delivered. We solved that.”
“The copper shot we offered last season has already proven it can hang with bismuth in the field,” Cerecke added. “This new technology builds on that foundation and is engineered to outperform it. The ductile nature of copper gives us flexibility that few non-toxic materials can match – allowing the shot to be choked tightly when desired, safely used in older firearms like bismuth, and driven at significantly higher velocities that bismuth simply cannot tolerate. We’re excited about the future of this new shot and will be integrating it into both our Boss Copper and Warchief lines in the coming weeks.”
Boss CuProX™ copper shot is manufactured entirely in the United States and integrated into Boss’s premium shotshell lineup, paired with optimized wad systems to maximize real-world field performance.
Boss will continue its direct-to-consumer model to maintain tight quality control and deliver a consistent customer experience, while selectively expanding into retail partnerships to ensure early market availability and industry adoption.
“We built this company by going direct and proving performance first,” Cerecke said. “Retail expansion is about getting this technology into more hunters’ hands – not compromising how we make it.”
Boss copper shotshells built with CIC Non-Toxic Shot™ are available now at www.bossshotshells.com, with additional product availability rolling out in the coming weeks. Initial production is underway as part of a staged rollout ahead of the 2026 season.
