Afuera Productions Launches Crowdfunding Campaign for Second OUTLIER Film

February 20, 2024

Support production of next episode in the groundbreaking OUTLIER Film Series by streaming OUTLIER: TRUST

DENVER, CO. /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Latina-founded production company, Afuera Productions, is announcing the release of OUTLIER: TRUST to support crowdfunding for their second film. TRUST is the first episode of the OUTLIER series—which questions the role identity, community, and belonging have in our survival as a species. After premiering in twelve festivals worldwide, OUTLIER: TRUST will now be available through early release to supporters of the second episode crowdfunding campaign.

This revolutionary series follows three Latina leaders chasing (backcountry) perfection. On an emotional journey into wintry mountain ranges of North America, a scientist, a filmmaker, and a community-builder share the deeply emotional, turbulent journeys of their everyday lives as boundary-breakers—while pushing towards the very real summits and snow-driven joy that define them.

Afuera Production aims to fundraise $26,100 to cover production costs for final shoots. By pledging to support this film, you are helping a Latina/Asian-led film production to: amplify women’s voices in outdoor media; honor the land upon which we roam; uplift underrepresented athletes and filmmakers; and support equitable pay in outdoor media.

“Growing up in Los Angeles and later moving to Fresno, California, I never saw women like me—Latina, Asian, or mixed—in action sports media,” reflects Dani Reyes-Acosta. “Now, as a professional mountain athlete and filmmaker, my goal is to show girls—and everyone else who’s ever felt caught in-between—that being an OUTLIER can be a joyous journey of self-love, kinship to others, and reconnection to the Earth herself.”

These women’s stories, told directly to the camera and while traveling through the majestic snowy mountains of North America, are a roller coaster of emotions that provide lessons on tenacity, everyday joy, and solidarity—even when it feels like the world is crumbling.

“OUTLIER is a love letter to BIPOC folks in the outdoors, a wake-up call to the wider outdoor community, and an “I see you” to anyone who has ever struggled to confidently know they belong,“ remarks OUTLIER: Trust Co-Director Faith Briggs Rose.

Together, we summit. When you support OUTLIER: COMMON, you’re not just contributing to a film; you’re helping to build a movement to promote pay equity, uplift women and marginalized voices in outdoor filmmaking.
