Backcountry Launches Gearhead-Crafted Winter Pursuit Collection

November 26, 2019

Featuring GORE-TEX Brands, the collection meets the evolving needs of the modern adventurer

Park City, UTAH (September 26, 2019) — Today, Backcountry, the country’s leading specialty outdoor retailer, announced the upcoming launch of its Winter Pursuit Collection, live on Backcountry.com September 30th. Featuring industry-leading GORE-TEX technologies, the collection follows the success of the spring 2019 collections, and celebrates Backcountry’s 23 years of retail and product expertise, powered by its in-house expert team of Gearheads™.

Founded and based near Utah’s iconic Wasatch Mountain Range, Backcountry’s core mission is to provide product access and expertise to enable outdoor adventure. By curating a premium collection of the best brands in the outdoor industry, paired with personalized service via its Gearheads, the retailer has flourished. Leveraging its decades of experience and the insight gained from Gearheads interacting with millions of customers every year, Backcountry began building its own product lines in 2018 to address unmet customer needs.

This winter, to create a best-in-class line of outerwear, Backcountry turned to the most trusted name in weather protection by offering GORE-TEX products. “Our goal in utilizing GORE-TEX technologies was to combine our decades of knowledge in outdoor gear with a brand partner synonymous with premium design, function, and durability,” says Jonathan Nielsen, Backcountry CEO. “The end result is our Winter Pursuit Collection that pushes the boundaries of innovation.”

Two distinctive aspects of the Winter Pursuit Collection set it apart from other products on the market. The first is the intensive involvement of Gearheads, who helped design and test the line,

before ultimately certifying it on dawn patrols involving hundreds of thousands of vertical feet in the Wasatch backcountry. This makes the Backcountry Winter Pursuit Collection truly “for the people, by the people.”

The GORE-TEX brands have identified that one of the most valuable aspects of the collection with Backcountry is the focus on the customer and the ability to identify exactly what the most avid skiers want in their kit. “We are excited by the Backcountry x GORE-TEX line of products designed and developed by Gearheads with our target consumer in mind,” says Mike McGrath, North America Consumer Oriented Fabrics Sales Leader for Gore. “Backcountry’s touring kit is a unique utilization of the new GORE-TEX INFINIUMTM brand.”

The other unique aspect of Backcountry’s Winter Pursuit Collection is that the entire line is backcountry-oriented. “We focused on the future of these sports as opposed to where they have been,” explains Nielsen. More and more people are seeking freedom of expression outdoors by heading into the backcountry and sidecountry. The collection speaks to this growing trend, by integrating backcountry-specific design elements into nearly every piece of the collection, from clever venting and interior beacon loops, to pockets engineered to store skins.

The pinnacle piece of Backcountry Winter Pursuit Collection is the Rustler Stretch Jacket (MSRP $479.95), which offers high-performance waterproofing and freedom of movement. For cold-weather skiing and snowboarding, Backcountry built the Cottonwoods Jacket (MSRP $399.95) and Cottonwoods Bibs (MSRP $349.95). GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ brand products are featured in the most touring-specific kit in the collection: the Hayden Jacket (MSRP $299.95) and Hayden Pant (MSRP $299.95). The collection is rounded-out with key accessories including a Glove (MSRP $99.95) and Mitten (MSRP $99.95), incorporating GORE-TEX breathable inserts. All pieces are available for men and women.

The Winter Pursuit Collection launches September 30, and the full Winter Collection, including hardgoods collaborations, will debut on October 28. With Gearhead input, Backcountry co-designed the Backcountry x Burton Promise Land Splitboard (MSRP $899.95), the pinnacle piece of its hardgoods line. Together with the Backcountry x DPS Nebo Alpine Touring Ski (MSRP $1,119.95), Backcountry has created a complete backcountry kit with cutting-edge features like lightweight aerospace carbon laminate and snow-wicking fiberglass topsheet.

Backcountry’s Winter Pursuit Collection comes on the heels of the release of its Fall Adventure Travel Collection. Aligned with the winter product line, the Fall Collection takes a forward-looking point of view, offering utilitarian, versatile product and gear designed for the growing market of adventure travel, from modular travel and gear bags to high-performance base layers and outerwear.

The Backcountry Winter Pursuit Collection allows skiers and riders to outfit backcountry pursuits with style and versatility. By enabling access to the best-in-class product at an accessible price point—paired with personalized and expert service—Backcountry furthers its core mission of helping people find their backcountry.
