Cotopaxi Releases 2021 Impact Report

April 4, 2022

Assisting Over 1.25 Million People and Becoming Carbon Neutral, Cotopaxi Shares its Record-Breaking Progress Towards Achieving Human Sustainability

Salt Lake City, UT. (April 4, 2022)/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – B Corp and mission-driven brand Cotopaxi, today released its annual Global Reporting Initiative core Impact Report. The report aims to provide a balanced and comprehensive assessment of the brand’s approach to sustainability topics such as supply chain management, diversity, equity, and inclusion, corporate social responsibility,  carbon emissions, and corporate philanthropy.

Highlights from the report include a complete overview of Cotopaxi’s carbon footprint and achievement of carbon neutrality. All three scopes were measured and reduced or offset. The report also details that through its progressive corporate philanthropy overseen by the Cotopaxi Foundation, Cotopaxi was able to reach over 1 million people in extreme poverty through financial and product donations.

Beyond positive outcomes, the report also details the brand’s diversity, equity, and inclusion performance and outlines its journey to improvement. Given the significant impacts that occur within apparel supply chains, the report also provides a thorough breakdown of Cotopaxi’s suppliers, audits, anonymous surveys and human rights efforts.  The report aims to provide the highest possible degree of transparency around Cotopaxi’s efforts and performance with regards to sustainability.

Climate change is one of the largest single drivers of extreme poverty. It is estimated that without climate action, environmental degradation will displace up to 1.5 billion people by 2050. Cotopaxi was founded as a vehicle to fight extreme poverty, and remains committed to being a living example of the potential of conscious capitalism to solve today’s pressing and complex sustainability challenges. Which is why in 2021 Cotopaxi took the steps to become Climate Neutral Certified – measuring, offsetting, and making a commitment to reduce their carbon footprint.

In 2021, the Cotopaxi Foundation awarded over $450,00 in grants aimed at counteracting the social impacts of the pandemic and donated over 220,000 reusable masks to help protect homeless and marginalized families at heightened risk of exposure to COVID-19. The 2021 Impact Report details how these efforts and campaigns worked to provide assistance to over 1.25 Million  people in need.

“2021 was a year of evolution and growth at Cotopaxi, and for our  impact leadership team, it was a year characterized by urgency and concern but also by determination,” said Annie Agle, Senior Director of Impact and Sustainability at Cotopaxi. “As we reflect on what it is that has made Cotopaxi successful in its impact, we believe that it is the courageous optimism of everyday people who choose to support accountable capitalism. Optimism has been shaken, but when it is grounded in both an acknowledgement of hard truths alongside and a dogged faith in humanity, hope can power not just a company, but a movement.”
