Electric Named Outside Gear of the Year Award Winner for Second Year in a Row

San Clemente, California (May 26, 2016) –Electric has made history, becoming the first company to receive Outside’s Gear of the Year Award two years in a row for the same category. The new Stacker, Electric’s most technically advanced frame to date, was chosen as the best of new sunglasses for 2016.

“The Stacker represents a commitment to the ongoing innovation of active eyewear. Style that performs is more than a tagline for Electric. The Stacker pushes the idea to its furthest extremes, fusing timeless rock ‘n’ roll styling with the most advanced performance features available to create something new entirely. Being recognized by Outside magazine for the second year in a row is great validation for the path that we are on. Being awarded by people who actually push their eyewear to perform is the highest compliment.” – Eric Crane, CEO

“The Stacker is brilliantly bipolar – street chic and seriously outdoorsy – and to hell with any blah in-between,” said Mike Steere, sunglasses tester for the Outside Buyer’s Guide. “To qualify for top honors, the optics had to be brilliant, too. And there has to be star quality, hard to express but instantly recognizable.”

The Stacker is a purpose built performance sunglass that features Electric’s Optics of OHM. Melanin infused lenses block harmful UV and HEV blue light, allowing eyes to relax while providing vivid, crisp, clear, haze free vision. The Stacker also features a removable eye mask to block light and the elements. Anti-slip nose and temple grips hidden into the frame ensure the sunglasses stay in place. A lens ventilation system directs airflow up the lens and through inconspicuous vents between the lens and frame, creating a light directional airflow that reduces fogging. Temples allow easy application of sunglass leashes and double action plastic hinges offer twice the strength at half the weight. By using Grylamid, the frames are lightweight and flexible, while still offering high tensile strength and heat resistance.

This year, the Outside team of adventure sports experts hit the trails on foot and on wheels, and took to rivers and lakes around the country to put all the newest shoes, bikes, boats, fitness apparel, accessories and gadgets to the test. The Summer Buyer’s Guide offers readers everything they learned from field-testing hundreds of products, making it the top resource for everyone from seasoned adventurers to venturing out for the first time. Reviews are organized by sport and activity, and include the ideal setting or experience level for each product, as well as tips for getting the most out of each gear pick. Only the best items on the market are featured in the guide.

“The innovations in the field of adventure and outdoor gear never cease to amaze us,” says Outside Buyer’s Guide editor Sam Moulton. “Our team of gear experts had plenty of difficult choices to make in putting together the Summer Buyer’s Guide this year, but after testing everything from hiking packs and running shoes to wearable tech and commuter bikes, we hand-picked the very best 350 products, including the fourteen very top performers that received our coveted Gear of the Year award. Once again, the issue is packed with everything you need for summer fun and adventure.”
