Contributions to support three non-profit organizations combatting increased threats to land conservation in United States and Canada
GOTHENBURG, Sweden (April 16, 2025) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – This Earth Day, Icebug, the Swedish footwear company known for developing shoes with world-leading grip, will donate 100% of its North American website sales to non-profit organizations supporting land conservation in the United States and Canada. The company’s U.S. sales will support the Wilderness Society and the Conservation Land Foundation, and its Canadian sales will support the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS). Each organization is working to mitigate new or increased threats to land conservation so that forests can thrive for generations to come.
This support is especially timely in the United States, where more than 100 million acres of National Forest land has recently been made vulnerable to accelerated logging. A secretarial memo issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture earlier this month announced an “Emergency Situation Determination” that reduced environmental protections on 58% of National Forest land. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins justified the determination by citing concerns over wildfire fuel and forest disease, but experts see the move as a way to bypass the environmental reviews and processes of public input that previously helped protect lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service.
“Icebug has always been committed to protecting the environment, and forests in particular, both in the company’s home country of Sweden and here in the U.S.,” said Icebug USA Marketing Coordinator Teagan Bowar. “Opening up this much more forested land to logging — especially without establishing measures to mitigate the environmental impacts — directly contradicts what we stand for. We must protect the forest, so we’ve chosen to support these three organizations on Earth Day.”
The Wilderness Society, Conservation Land Foundation, and CPAWS are all taking action to preserve the critical habitats and ecosystem services provided by threatened forests. By financially supporting them on Earth Day, Icebug hopes to help make a difference at a time when forests in North America are under increased threat.
As a company, Icebug has made forest conservation efforts its primary philanthropic focus in recent years, as the CO2 captured by trees and other vegetation plays a large role in combatting climate change. On Black Friday, in 2024, the business donated 100% of its sales to the Nature Conservancy in the U.S. and CPAWS in Canada. Additionally, as a member of 1% for the Planet, Icebug donates 1% of their global sales each year to environmental organizations.
“At Icebug we strive to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible,” said Bowar. “But that’s not where our sustainability efforts end. We want to support organizations doing great environmental work, so our 1% for the Planet membership is another pillar of this initiative.”
