Introducing the Brompton P Line: Next level frame. Next level componentry. A next level ride.

November 18, 2021

18th November 2021 /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Since its introduction in 2005, the Brompton Superlight has given Brompton users the option for a lighter bike to get from A-B. By using different materials in its construction, the Superlight emphasised the Brompton’s ability to be folded down and carried, saving owners time carrying between destinations. With a lighter bike, the performance increased when unfolded as well, for a lighter bike was faster.

Now, for 2022, in line with Brompton simplifying its bike categories, the Brompton Superlight has transformed into the Brompton P Line. Featuring an entirely new titanium rear frame and lightweight componentry, the meticulously engineered Brompton P Line weighs just 9.65kg, nearly 2kg less than the Brompton C Line model, delivering lightweight performance, folded and unfolded.

Next level frame:

The titanium rear frame and forks are 700 grammes lighter than the all-steel equivalent, just as strong and the naturally, shock-absorbing titanium smooths out city roads. The redesigned suspension block maximises efficiency and responsiveness by shifting pedal power to improve control and handling performance.

Enhanced portability:

Performance doesn’t stop when the bike is folded. The new dual-locking seat post system has two positions, fully down for storing or halfway up for rolling and the larger, lighter rolling wheels glide over uneven ground or through tight busy spaces.

Superlight, compact gear system

Designed by Brompton, the patent-pending gear set is fine-tuned for city riding.  The 4-speed system includes a 60-gram derailleur, cleverly engineered to fit inside the compact fold and providing a similar ratio to the 3-speed hub gear and 60% more than the 2-speed.

All-new wheelset

The lightest, sturdiest wheelset yet from Brompton, featuring a new rear hub designed ground-up to accommodate the new 4-speed gear set. Tested in all weathers for hundreds of hours, the wheelset stands up to the harshness of the city. Fitted with hex key axles and a new hanger mount, for quick and easy roadside maintenance.

Will Carleysmith, Chief Design & Engineering Officer said:

“With it’s titanium rear frame and forks, the Brompton Superlight has always offered a superior user experience than it’s all-steel equivalent. The new Brompton P Line is a leap forward from the Superlight, it is faster to ride, lighter to carry and easier to move around the city in every way. Significant weight savings and performance improvements have been achieved through the entirely redesigned rear frame and lightweight components including the compact 4-speed gearset.”

The new Brompton P Line launches on 18th November 2021, and will be available in Storm Grey and Midnight Black colours. (RRP XXX)

About Brompton

Made for cities, Brompton bikes are sold in 47 countries around the world and over 70% of production is exported. The company produces over 70,000 bikes a year and over 750,000 have hit the roads since the first bike was made in 1975 by the inventor Andrew Ritchie.

A Brompton bike is perfect for those that live, work or play in cities: The bike folds up to a third of its size, and weighs on average just 11kg for the standard model and from 16.6kg for the Brompton Electric, which means a Brompton is suitable to take on all forms of transport – perfect for commuting on trains, popping in the boot of the car and taking out of the city for some fresh air, hailing a taxi when the weather changes or you want to get home late at night.

One Brompton bike takes 6.2 tonnes less carbon than a car to make and 42 folded Brompton bikes can be parked in the space it takes to park one car. 15 flagship Brompton Junction retail stores in cities across the world, including London, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Milan, Kobe, Hamburg, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Munich, Valencia, New York, Melbourne, Tel Aviv and Singapore. Brompton sells to a selected 1,500 independent bike stores worldwide.
