Aspen, Colorado — March 16, 2022 /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – NASTAR (NAtional STAndard Race), the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world, developed by SKI Magazine and owned by Outside Interactive, Inc., will host its National Championships at Aspen Snowmass from Monday, April 4 through Saturday, April 9, 2022. The week will bring together racers and spectators of all ages for the NASTAR National Championships and the Race of Champions, where the top three men and women will receive prize money.

Online registration for qualified participants, which costs between $150 – $210, is open through March 31. Participants will receive access to races in specific age and gender divisions, a national championship gift bag, live entertainment, discounted lift tickets, awards, prize money, and more. A late registration option is available starting April 1 and registration will officially close on April 4th. Racing kicks off with the NASTAR Slalom Championships Monday, April 4, where all participating skiers will compete in a two-run, stubby-gate slalom race where their best handicaps are used for placements. Modified giant slalom (GS) races continue throughout the week with platinum, gold, silver, and bronze divisions. The top 32 male and female racers that score the most points during their divisional races will receive invites to compete in the Race of Champions. Qualifying racers will carry their winning handicap into the race to level the playing field, giving young and veteran racers an equal opportunity to win. The Race of Champions finals will then consist of a head-to-head single elimination handicap race, and the top finishers will receive prize money.

About NASTAR

NASTAR stands for NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world. Founded in 1968, NASTAR gives recreational racers an opportunity to compete and compare their scores to friends and family regardless of when and where they race using the NASTAR handicap system. NASTAR was developed by SKI Magazine in 1968 and now boasts more than 100,000 races at over 100 resorts around the country. Racers are scored by earning a handicap that represents their ability. The handicap provides participants with a tangible number, or handicap, that is the percentage they are behind the time of the National Standard or the National Pacesetter.

Today, NASTAR is owned and operated by Outside Inc. NASTAR is bringing greater awareness to the sport and value to the industry while motivating participants of all ages to get involved in alpine racing.
