PEARL iZUMi Introduces BikeStyle Line for Spring 2019

February 19, 2019

Introducing first-ever pieces made with responsibly-sourced Merino and recycled polyester

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (February 19, 2019) — PEARL iZUMi, the world’s leader in cycling apparel and footwear, set out create the perfect apparel for those dressing for the destination, not just the journey. Comfortable, versatile and functional on any type of bike, any road or trail, as well as off the bike, BikeStyle apparel is the perfect way to weave riding into everyday life.

“Building on the success of our Versa products, we’ve added new bottoms with a more modern tailored fit for both men and women,” said Alison Stayart, Product Manager for PEARL iZUMi. “We’re also excited to introduce new high performance Merino wool tops that combine responsibly sourced Merino with Reprieve recycled polyester. Not only are these items sustainable, but they also fit and feel fantastic.”

The new Blvd Merino T ($80) and Blvd Merino ¼ Zip ($110) are performance wool tops that combine fast drying polyester and luxurious Merino wool for the ultimate in temperature regulation and comfort. But this fabric is not a simple blend; PEARL iZUMi’s unique plated construction places the polyester next to the skin and the Merino on the exterior of the fabric, to maximize the benefits of both materials. Technical polyester fibers, created from recycled water bottles by REPREVE®, are used to complete the sustainable material package.

These new tops are just the start of PEARL iZUMi’s new initiatives to grow their sustainable practices. Inline with their new Social Purpose statement, PEARL iZUMi pledges that by 2020, 30% of the PEARL iZUMi line will be made of recycled, renewable or organic materials. And by 2022, the brand plans 90% of the total product line will meet this criteria.

Another great addition to the BikeStyle line is the women’s Vista Pant ($125). This new pant has a classic five pocket design and uses soft four-way stretch polyester twill, which moves smoothly as you pedal. The wide waistband flatters the female form, and it is a little higher in the back for more coverage in the riding position. An eco-friendly durable water repellent finish sheds road spray so you will look fresh when you arrive.

For the hotter summer days, the men’s and women’s Vista Short ($110) is equally suited to the trail or around town. With lightweight twill fabric and a durable water repellent finish these modern, tapered-fit shorts also include subtle bike focused details to make them pedal friendly, yet much more versatile than typical bike gear.

“We see a trend of riders wanting gear that works well in a variety of situations. These additions to the BikeStyle collection will surprise you with how well they pedal, but they feel so natural that you’ll grab them for a normal tuesday too,” said Andrew Hammond, Brand Manager at PEARL iZUMi.

The new collection of BikeStyle gear debuted at Eurobike 2018 and is available now at pearlizumi.com and local retailers.

About PEARL iZUMi

PEARL iZUMi was founded on two things: the love of cycling and more importantly, love for future generations. More than 60 years ago a father in Japan created a special jersey out of technical fabric for his son, an aspiring bike racer. Since then, the company has been evolving and revolutionizing the design and manufacture of performance apparel and footwear for cyclists. PEARL iZUMi believes how we live today shapes how future generations ride, which is why they are committed to having a positive impact with cycling through sustainability and environmentally friendly actions. PEARL iZUMi’s world headquarters is rooted in the Colorado Front Range where it embraces strong influence, both culturally and structurally, from its Japanese heritage.
