RV Companies To Lay Off Hundreds In Northern Indiana

Approximately 450 people at three subsidiaries of Elkhart-based recreational vehicle manufacturer Thor Industries Inc. are to be laid off, affecting various locations in LaGrange and Elkhart Counties.

Facilities in Howe, Elkhart and Middlebury will face layoffs Friday, June 20, according to multiple Indiana Department of Workforce Development filings.

Heartland Recreational Vehicles LLC, Cruiser RV LLC, and DRV LLC were the organizations filing the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notices, dated Monday, April 21.

Cruiser RV and DRV reported that 251 and 51 workers, respectively, will be laid off from facilities in Howe. Heartland RV, meanwhile, said six facilities in Elkhart and one in Middlebury are set to lose 147 workers in all.

A reason was not given for the layoffs. The WARN notices state affected workers do not have bumping rights and are not represented by a union. Documents said the companies are also not giving any separation assistance. IFN
