Sciessent Announces Partnership with Haglöfs, Supplies Lava™ Odor-Fighting Fabric Treatment

June 16, 2016

Effective at keeping apparel smelling fresh, Lava provides an environmentally friendly way to control odor

Wakefield, Mass. (June 16, 2016) – Sciessent, makers of a wide variety of odor-fighting and DWR finishes for the outdoor industry, today announces a partnership with Swedish apparel and footwear company Haglöfs. Sciessent will supply their Lava odor-adsorbing technology for use in selected pieces of Haglöfs apparel range.

Non-toxic and bluesign®-approved, Lava effectively traps the odor molecules produced by naturally occurring bacteria that live on our skin. The result is apparel that smells fresher, longer and requires less laundering.

“We’re happy to be working with Haglöfs as they share our commitment to environmental responsibility,” said Paul Ford, CEO with Sciessent. “Like all Sciessent products, our Lava technology product meets stringent environmental standards and we feel Haglöfs is a perfect partner to help us further our mission.”

By dramatically reducing odor, Lava goes beyond simply using environmentally friendly ingredients and production processes; it helps to eliminate the need to wash apparel more frequently, saving water and allowing wearers to use less laundry detergent.

“Everyone sweats and the clothing inevitably starts to smell. Since we create clothing to complement an active lifestyle, the need to incorporate odor-fighting technology into our apparel is apparent,” said Eva Mullins, sustainability manager with Haglöfs. “We opted to partner with Sciessent and use their Lava product because it provides an environmentally-friendly solution to odor control allowing us to tread more lightly in the places we play.”

Haglöfs apparel featuring Lava is currently available globally at select retailers and online.

Lava attracts and adsorbs body odor compounds that are produced as a result of sweating. As these odors try to pass through garments, Lava goes to work to capture them and keep clothes smelling fresh. When the garment is washed, the odor compounds are released while the technology remains on the garment and regenerates the capacity to capture more odor compounds on the next wear.
