SnoPlanks launches Street Surfers in collaboration with Gerry Lopez, with 100% of proceeds supporting The Conservation Alliance

BEND, Ore. (June 17, 2021) –SnoPlanks unveils its 2021 line of Street Surfer skateboards in collaboration with legendary surfer, Gerry Lopez, with 100% of proceeds directly supporting The Conservation Alliance, a coalition of companies committed to protecting North America’s wild places.
SnoPlanks, creators of handmade snowboards and skis in Bend, Ore., joined The Conservation Alliance in January 2021 with the intention of leveraging their brand to have a positive impact on the planet by protecting wild places.
From June through September 2021, all of the revenue from the 2021 Gerry Lopez Street Surfer collaboration will directly benefit The Conservation Alliance’s summer grant cycle, which will support more than 20 grassroots conservation organizations working to protect wild landscapes throughout North America.
“When we started SnoPlanks, we knew that we wanted to do more with our brand than simply sell a consumer product,” said James Nicol, SnoPlanks Founder and CEO. “We have always tried to be mindful of our footprint and have done our best to create a business that is as environmentally sustainable as possible. At the end of the day, we started a snowboard company because we love snowboarding, just as we love fishing the waters and surfing the waves that surround this beautiful place we call home. It’s our responsibility as ambassadors for our planet to do whatever we can to protect these wild places and that’s what this collaboration with Gerry and The Conservation Alliance is all about.”
Gerry Lopez, legendary surfer fondly known as Mr. Pipeline, is renowned for his surfboard shaping. Gerry collaborated with SnoPlanks to create three designs for this year’s skateboard line, all with unique shapes suited for different styles of riding:The Flatwater, The Popsicle, and The Cheater ($79-$129 MSRP). All three are handmade with 100% maple wood in Bend, OR, and include a laser-etched logo with Gerry Lopez’s signature.
When asked about the importance of the Street Surfer Collaboration and its tie to The Conservation Alliance, Gerry said, “There is no right way to do the wrong thing. We start out in business to do the right thing—build the best product or offer the best service, and deal with the endless problems that come with trying to do that. But suddenly we have a much bigger problem on our hands. Our planet is in crisis and our business is about saving our world. This is a problem that all of us need to incorporate into our everyday lives. The wrong thing is not doing anything.”

James Nicol started SnoPlanks in 2012 in his garage in Bend, Oregon. Steam bent wood, fiberglass, and resin yielded the humble origins of this brand. In many ways these early planks represented something you would ride in the ocean rather than the mountains, but that was the point—to think outside the box and to access new feelings when sliding on snow. What started as a creative outlet turned into much more: a community, a way of life, a purpose, and somewhere along the way, a company.
