European outdoor performance apparel company expands ambassador program

November 14, 2023 — Kaunas, Lithuania /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Thermowave, manufacturer of premium merino wool performance apparel, is elated to welcome Olympian Katia Griffiths to its ambassador team. Griffiths, a freestyle skiing trailblazer, is best known for competing in the Olympic debut of the ski halfpipe at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, where she finished 16th in the qualification.

“Working with ambassadors has proven to be the best motivation for our team,” said Audrius Pocius, CEO of Thermowave. “When we get to connect with real life outdoor adventurers and athletes, that is when we see our products in action, being tested in both performance and reliability.”

Katia Griffiths was born in London, but moved to her mother’s native Spain in early childhood. “I grew up by the Atlantic Ocean, but my mom first took me skiing to Andora when I was around five years old,” said Katia. “Since then, I have been hooked, and that was all I wanted to do.”

Dedicating years of training on a professional level, Katia’s childhood passion turned into an Olympic dream. After placing 5th at both the 2009 and 2011 Freestyle Skiing World Cup in La Plagne and Kreischberg, Griffiths made her Olympic debut at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. In the halfpipe competition, she represented Spain as the sole participant and finished in 16th place. When asked about what fuels her commitment to the sport, Katia shared: “Passion keeps you focused and motivated when training. Sometimes, when you are not getting the results you want, or you are dealing with injuries, it’s hard to keep going. But that is when you really need to keep pushing. And at the end of the day, it’s about enjoying the journey.”

In addition to being an Olympian, Katia Griffiths is also an environmentalist and holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. Embodying Thermowave’s core values, her passion for sustainability, along with her experience as a professional skier, makes Katia the perfect ambassador for the merino wool performance apparel brand. Currently, Katia is testing Thermowave’s latest innovation– the Merino ReNew Jacket. This midlayer jacket is made with recycled merino wool sourced in Italy, which gives fabrics a second life while also reducing their carbon footprint and providing more jobs in Europe.
