November 11, 2020

SKI Magazine awards Sun Valley with top honor and New Terrain and Chairlift Named

Sun Valley Resort, the fabled, prestigious and original North American destination ski resort, is proud to announce it has been named as the top ski resort in the 2021 Annual Ski Resort Awards by SKI Magazine. This is the first time the Resort has won this award.

The annual Resort Guide is based on the results of the Reader Resort Survey, the most comprehensive and longest-running rankings in the industry. Sun Valley also ranked No. 1 in the categories of Lifts and Down-Day Activities and ranked in the Top 5 in the categories of Grooming, Dining, Lodging, On-Mountain Food, Service, Accessibility, Local Flavor, Charm, and Overall Satisfaction. Sun Valley is known for incredible year-round resort and village experiences, and the team are thrilled to have the resort’s premiere reputation acknowledged through this award.

Sun Valley has a rich and storied history, but it was its most recent investments and innovations that helped land its first-ever win as Top Ski Resort in North America, West. These include Sun Valley’s upcoming terrain expansion plan of over 380 acres of expert terrain, featuring chutes, glades and bowls, called Sunrise (opening Winter 20/21), and new high-speed quad chairlift named Broadway, replacing Bald Mountain’s oldest operating chairlift, Cold Springs. Premium on-mountain dining experiences, paired with the resort’s impeccable weather, comparably short lift-lines and exceptional staff and service round out Ketchum/Sun Valley’s world-class destination appeal.

“The entire Sun Valley Resort community is elated to receive this Top Ski Resort award from SKI Magazine, and we are honored to be recognized among the many quality resorts across North America,” said Tim Silva, President and General Manager, Sun Valley Resort. “This was truly a team effort, with our entire Resort staff and leadership having a hand in creating an exceptional destination and year-round experience for guests and community. This award reflects their hard work and commitment to this great ski resort. We look forward to welcoming our pass holders and guests back to the Resort and onto the mountain for a safe, enjoyable and world-class winter season.”

With more than 3,400 vertical feet and over 2,000 acres of skiable terrain, which will increase to almost 2,500 acres with the Bald Mountain Expansion, Sun Valley offers skiers and boarders an exceptional and varied experience. Bald Mountain has 12 chairlifts, including the new high-speed Broadway quad, and over 65 runs, and family and beginner-friendly Dollar Mountain offers two high-speed quads, a full-featured terrain park with 76 rails and the Accelerator and the Silver Dollar Carpets for ease of access and learning appeal.

During a particularly tough year for all industries, Sun Valley recognizes the hard work of the Sun Valley Resort staff and greater community and expresses sincere and lasting appreciation for the hard work, loyalty and positivity throughout the year. Coming off the longest “off-season” the resort has ever seen, guests and staff are excited for a safe and enjoyable 20/21 Winter season, with numerous health and safety measures in place.
