Talent, Ore. (August 16, 2022) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Leading technical headwear brand Sunday Afternoons has received certification from Climate Neutral, the nonprofit standard-bearer for global climate neutrality. The Ashland, Oregon-based company with distribution in 60 countries worldwide achieved Climate Neutral Certification by measuring its 2021 greenhouse gas emissions, purchasing eligible verified carbon credits to offset its footprint, and implementing an annual reduction action plan.

“At the core of Sunday Afternoons is a love of nature and wild places,” said company CEO Sarah Sameh. “Climate Neutral Certification supports the brand’s heartfelt commitment to decrease our footprint across our business. Through our carbon offset program, we have purchased credits in the Hong Phong 4 Solar Plant in Vietnam to offset 4,905 tonnes (metric tons) of greenhouse gas emissions this year. Our goal is to reduce our entire carbon footprint by 30% by 2030.”

Climate Neutral works to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and bring climate neutrality to hundreds of brands and millions of consumers each year. Companies that achieve its certification must meet internationally recognized standards for carbon measurement and neutrality, and certification must be renewed annually.

“Climate Neutral Certified companies show the world that immediate action on climate change is possible and essential,” said Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral. “In just three years, a growing number of Climate Neutral Certified brands have built a powerful movement that gives companies and consumers meaningful ways to act on climate right now.”

Achieving Climate Neutral Certification is the latest step Sunday Afternoons has taken to ensure that its products are increasingly sustainable. As of 2021, 54% of its products are created with certified sustainable fabric, 52% feature bluesign®-certified socially and environmentally responsible fabric, and 8.5% are made with global recycled standard certified materials.

In addition, by eliminating individual polyurethane bags for both wholesale and retail orders, the company has diverted 5.5 million bags, equivalent to 100,000 pounds of plastic, from landfills. Sunday Afternoons also donates a percentage of its profits to global and local organizations working on conservation and social justice issues, including Protect Our Winters, Leave No Trace, and the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA).
