SWIX Launches Virtual Learning Center

February 4, 2021

HAVERHILL, Mass. — SWIX today launched a virtual learning center to share best practices and knowledge with skiers, snowboarders and outdoor athletes worldwide.

The inaugural course, called the Responsible Waxing Project, addresses best practices for waxing safely with minimal impact on the environment for the Nordic, Alpine and Snowboarding communities.

The online course features SWIX Alpine Director Graham Lonetto, a former World Cup serviceman for the U.S. Ski Team, who instructs coaches and technicians on the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and best practices for waxing safely. The course also reviews the impact of fluorinated waxes on the environment and the new rules adopted by USSA for skiing fluoro-free.

“This course — the first of many — will deliver SWIX knowledge and expertise to the skiing and snowboarding communities,” SWIX CEO Steven Poulin said. “SWIX has spent years developing the best techniques for properly and safely waxing and tuning skis while minimizing our environmental impact. We hope the entire community will join us in our commitment to ski fluoro-free.”

The course is approved by U.S. Ski & Snowboard and completion of the program counts toward its continuing education credits.

“The safety of coaches and athletes and the health of our environment are top priorities for U.S. Ski & Snowboard, said its President and CEO Tiger Shaw. “This online learning module is an excellent way to expand awareness of best practices for responsible waxing.”

SWIX and its parent company, BRAV, have developed a sustainable strategy to move beyond fluoro. That commitment includes the introduction of Pro by SWIX, a new fluoro-free glide wax system for ambitious and elite skiers.

“Skiers and snowboarders do not have to compromise the environment to achieve the speed and performance they want,” Poulin said.

As a market leader in the sport and outdoor industry, SWIX and BRAV believe it is our responsibility lead by example as we drive toward an environmentally sustainable future.

The four-part Responsible Waxing Project course, which can be completed in 45-minutes to one hour, includes four topic modules:

  • Selecting and Properly Using Your Personal Protective Equipment
  • Waxing Safety Protocols
  • Choosing Non-Fluorinated Waxes, and
  • Understanding the Rules for Skiing and Snowboarding Fluoro-free

SWIX worked with Emerge in Gypsum, Colo., to create a program that marries best instructional design practices with engaging content to ensure that coaches, athletes and technicians can easily master the material and check their progress.

SWIX plans to expand its course offerings in the coming months.
