TerraTrike launches the Spyder and Spyder ATC: Two performance road trikes for unmatched speed and efficiency

October 20, 2021

Because anything else would just be slower

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – If the fun part of riding is going really fast, TerraTrike has just released its funnest trikes yet – the Spyder and Spyder ATC.

The top-of-the-line Spyder ATC is a product of TerraTrike’s “Advanced Trike Concepts” division, and it’s a no-holds-barred speed machine.

Lightweight, wind-cheating carbon fiber rims offer a 30% efficiency advantage over conventional aluminum rim profiles. An oversized idler with a custom tooth profile and sealed cartridge bearings comes standard in the ATC, improving chain engagement and release to provide a more efficient drivetrain. The contoured carbon fiber seat is lightweight and directly mounted to the frame, adding front-end rigidity and sharp, precise handling. Even the boom is carbon fiber.

“As a former professional triathlete and lifetime endurance junkie, the Spyder and Spyder ATC are by far the most compelling models in the TerraTrike line for me,” said TerraTrike Sales and Marketing Director Marshall Randall. “I’ve taken this trike on rides over 50 miles with average speeds just under 20 mph. I’m no spring chicken, and I’m not one to brag, but that’s just how good this new trike is … It’s capable of things that people don’t think of when they think about recumbent trikes.”

Because good brakes let you go fast and great brakes even faster, the Spyder ATC comes equipped with high-end hydraulics. Performance road tires from Schwalbe are supple and grippy, and the whole package is rounded out by a race-worthy Shimano Ultegra/GRX drivetrain. Weighing in at under 30 pounds, the Spyder ATC is deep red and charcoal gray and retails for $5,599.

For a daily dose of speed in a more budget-friendly configuration, the Spyder shares the same two-piece 7000-series aluminum frame as the tricked-out ATC version, with alloy wheels, Shimano Deore hydraulic brakes and Shimano 105 components. Spyder also gets TerraTrike’s Sport Touring Seat, with a breathable mesh body and adjustable backrest.

Both Spyder and Spyder ATC feature vertical handlebars, internal cable routing and an aggressive, laid-back riding position for a streamlined look and maximum aero gains at high speed.

At 35 pounds, the TerraTrike Spyder is among the lightest, fastest recumbent trikes available, with a retail price of $3,999.
