The Indoor Climbing Industry Is Booming, but the Transition Has Changed the Sport

At the end of 2023, a total of 785 climbing gyms were open in the United States, compared to 353 gyms in 2014. That’s a 122 percent increase in less than a decade.

The industry accumulates over $30 billion in revenue yearly, according to the Climbing Wall Association—rivaling the general fitness, health, and gym club industry, which produced around $30.6 billion in 2022.
