Wondery Outdoors Hosts Climb with Color, a BIPOC-Focused, Approachable and Inclusive Climbing Event

October 9, 2023

Wondery’s ‘You Belong Out Here’ Ethos Welcomes Everyone

October 9, Los Angeles, Calif. /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Wondery Outdoors, the women’s apparel and gear brand on a mission to be the most diverse and inclusive brand in the outdoor industry, has partnered with Touchstone Climbing to host Climb with Color presented by REI. An annual fundraising event serving Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) organizations and climbing communities, Climb with Color is one of many community initiatives at Wondery that aligns with their commitment to championing greater diversity, inclusivity and empowerment in the outdoors. Climb with Color will welcome climbers of any ability on Saturday, October 14th at Touchstone Climbing’s LA Boulders location in downtown Los Angeles. Admission is free for Touchstone members and a discounted rate of $20 for Touchstone guests in an effort to make it more accessible.

The Wondery team anticipates 150 guests and is encouraging BIPOC identifying and allies with any range of climbing abilities to join the one-day Climb with Color event. The festival will include discounted climbing clinics, adventure challenges, food vendors and a BIPOC-owned marketplace. Participants can also enter to win fresh gear from leading outdoor brand event sponsors including Chaco, Cotopaxi, Klymit, Mad Rock, and Selk Bag.

Most importantly, Climb with Color will emphasize true inclusivity and will provide basic instruction for participants who haven’t yet tried climbing, in a judgment-free and supportive space. And for those participants who need gear, Wondery will host a pop-up shop at the event where their bestselling Isabel 3.0 Outdoor Pants and new Sabrina Cargo Pants will be 50% off.

All proceeds from Climb with Color will support community partners Lagartijas Climbing Crú and Sending in Color. These outstanding organizations were selected based on their work which also inspires and empowers BIPOC folks to get outside.

“As a BIPOC-owned and women-led team, we know first-hand that accessing nature isn’t easy for everyone, and climbing can be perceived as an especially intimidating sport, but it doesn’t have to be,” said Lydia Mok, co-owner and Community Director at Wondery. “Everyone’s path to the outdoors is different, and we want to ease the entry and journey into the outdoors for people who have been underserved. The outdoors is for everyone, and organizations like Lagartijas Climbing Crú and Sending in Color are so critically important to leveling access to outdoor participation and offering opportunities to make friends and learn with — and from — people who look like you. They align perfectly with the growing success of our climbing, hiking, and outdoor events that welcome everyone and help bring ‘You Belong Out Here’ to life.”
