World Obstacle achieves Observer Status of the Global Association of International Sports Federations

October 7, 2021

GAISF to guide FISO in next steps toward full membership

Lausanne, Switzerland: At the last GAISF Council meeting held on September 27, 2021, World Obstacle, FISO – Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO) was granted the Observer status, which allows it to attend the GAISF General Assembly, as well as to participate in international events hosted by GAISF, to be assisted in becoming a WADA signatory, to acknowledge GAISF reports, and to be guided in taking the next steps towards full membership.

This is an extremely important achievement for World Obstacle because it represents the first milestone in getting the sports of Obstacle Course Racing, Ninja Competitions and Adventure Racing recognized within the international sport community.

The process from World Obstacle’s application to the current decision required several steps to demonstrate the maturity of the organization, such as complete governance structures; regulation of sports and competitions; anti-doping measures; athlete, member and community engagement; and above all transparency and ethics regarding how the federation is established as an international organization.

“We are honored to be awarded observer status by GAISF” said World Obstacle president Mr. Ian Adamson “this is a critical step in the growth of the sport globally. On behalf of World Obstacle, I would like to thank GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli, the GAISF Council and the entire GAISF family for their guidance and support. With this important step, we are motivated to continue the development of obstacle sports for our National Federation members and their communities.”

National members also celebrated the achievement: “The recognition of Observer status by World Obstacle is a positive encouragement also for National Federations because it is a clear demonstration of the committed and responsible work we are doing to promote our sports and to develop our community, especially our athletes.”, said Alberto Agra, Philippine Obstacle Sports Federation and Obstacle Sports Federation Asia-Pacific President.

World Obstacle reported that last September, on the 7th FISO Congress and World Obstacle General Assembly, their new Strategic Plan 2021-2028 was approved having as one of its main objectives to achieve GAISF’s full membership to chase its purpose of being part of the Olympic Movement in the near future.
