Zeal Optics Unveils Re-Shred Recycled Goggle Initiative, Furthering Commitment to Sustainability

Zeal forges ahead with promise to reduce the footprint of every product it makes

Boulder, Colo. – December 12, 2023/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Zeal Optics proudly introduces the Re-Shred goggle initiative, a comprehensive commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility in winter sports eyewear with the addition of a minimum of 70% post-consumer recycled materials in all of its goggle frames and straps. Under the banner of “Reduce. Reuse. Re-Shred,” the brand aims to address the evolving challenges posed by climate change, advocating for the protection of the places we live and recreate while fostering a deeper connection between powder-seekers and the outdoors by reducing the footprint of its goggles.

“With our Re-Shred initiative, Zeal Optics is not just redefining eyewear; we’re rewriting the narrative of sustainability in winter sports,” said Mike Lewis, Senior Director of Global Marketing at Zeal Optics. “As a brand rooted in a love of the outdoors, we believe that every innovation should echo our dedication to protecting wild places and we’re excited to announce these new materials are in all of our goggles as of this season.”

As part of Zeal Optics’ commitment to continually reduce the footprint of all its products and processes, Re-Shred includes several key measures to meet with commitment with its ‘23/’24 goggles and beyond:

  • Eco-Friendly Goggle Components: Zeal Optics’ goggle frames are crafted from 100% recycled TPU and PC/ABS, demonstrating the brand’s dedication to utilizing sustainable materials. The softer sections of the goggle frames are made from recycled TPU, commonly found in footwear, while the harder Rail Lock System frames incorporate 100% recycled PC/ABS, commonly used in electronics.
  • Recycled PET Goggle Straps and Bags: Zeal’s goggle straps consist of a minimum of 70% recycled PET sourced from recycled water bottles. Additionally, the goggle bags are made from recycled PET, primarily derived from single-use water bottles, further contributing to the brand’s commitment to reducing plastic waste.
  • Sustainable Packaging Solutions: Zeal has eliminated all plastic from its goggle packaging to minimize waste. Goggles are packaged in paper boxes with pulp-mold inserts, similar to egg cartons, making the entire package recyclable.
  • FSC-Certified Paper and Soy Ink: In an effort to support responsible forest management, Zeal Optics utilizes FSC-Certified paper for its catalogs and printed materials. The printing process incorporates soy-based ink, which degrades four times faster than petroleum-based inks and is easier to remove from recycled paper.

The Re-Shred program marks the culmination of more than 10 years of work to bring Zeal’s goggle materials in-line with those of its sunglasses, which use plant-based, recycled or recyclable materials across all of its sunglass frames and Ellume Polarized lenses.
