A New Standard of Warmth Without Weight: Meet PAKA’s Mayu Collection
October 2, 2025

Powered by patented PAKAFILL® alpaca fiber insulation, the Mayu collection delivers uncompromising warmth in a 9-ounce package.
Boulder, CO (October 2, 2025) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ — Reflecting its commitment to ethical sourcing, traceable alpaca fiber, and thoughtful design, PAKA® introduces the Mayu Ultralight Outerwear Collection—the brand’s lightest insulated jacket and first-ever vest. Known as a leading innovator in alpaca apparel, PAKA’s new collection brings warmth, mobility, and versatility in a featherlight package built for adventurers, travelers, and ultralight packers.
The Mayu builds on PAKA’s legacy of insulated outerwear, following the success of the award-winning Apu Parka and Apu Lightweight. PAKAFILL® harnesses the natural thermoregulating properties of free-roaming alpacas in the Andes and stays warm when wet, unlike animal-derived down. The fiber insulation is traceable, ethically sourced, and now officially patented—a milestone for PAKA in performance-driven, sustainable outerwear.
“Mayu means river in Quechua, a symbol of movement and flow that mirrors the collection’s purpose: freedom to move lightly, adapt easily, and go further,” said Megan Krajco, Design Director at PAKA. “We wanted to create outerwear that doesn’t force trade-offs—lightweight but warm, packable but durable, ethical but high-performing. Every stitch, feature, and ounce was considered so that the wearer can focus on the journey.”
Despite its ultralight weight, the Mayu performs as a true powerhouse in warmth. The Mayu with PAKAFILL® rivals traditional synthetic fills and down in CLO tests with a strong warmth-to-weight ratio, while remaining breathable, compressible, and ethical. Built with a recycled nylon shell without intentionally added PFAS, the Mayu is wind- and weather-resistant, and layers easily under a waterproof shell when needed. The jacket and vest both pack into their own interior chest pockets, making them ideal for travel, backpacking, and even as camp pillows. The jacket’s interior cinch system traps body heat, the set-in sleeves enhance mobility, and the glove-friendly zipper pulls make every feature functional without adding bulk.
The Mayu Insulated Jacket ($249) weighs 8.8 ounces for women and 9.2 ounces for men, and the Mayu Ultralight Vest ($189) weighs just 6.4 ounces for women and 7.1 ounces for men. Both styles are available in Black, Burgundy, and Fossil, and the jacket is finished with PAKA’s signature Inca pattern subtly embossed on the cuffs, adding heritage-inspired detail.
