All Good Sends Aloha to Hawaii Governor for Signing Sunscreen Bill

July 3, 2018

Statewide Environmental Sunscreen Regulations Enacted to Protect Hawaii’s Coral Reef Ecosystems

Morro Bay, CA (July 3, 2018)— All Good—makers of #ReefFriendly and organic sunscreens—commends Hawai’i Governor Ige for singing Senate Bill 2571. The ‘Oxybenzone Ban’ makes Hawaii the first state in the nation to implement the regulation of toxic sunscreen formulas in order to revive the island’s natural, oceanic resources.

Beginning in January 1st, 2021, the sunscreen ban will prohibit companies from selling and distributing sunscreens on the islands that contain oxybenzone and oxtinoxate, both harmful ingredients proven damaging to coral reefs. All Good is thrilled to be part of the coalition that pushed this bill, encouraging use of mineral-based sunscreens.

Legislative efforts were led by Craig A. Downs, Ph.D. & Executive Director of Haereticus Environmental Laboratory and Hawaii-based non-profits such as Friends of Hanauma Bay. Almost two years ago, All Good launched an educational Reef Friendly campaign with a #ReefFriendly sunscreen pledge alongside defined criteria that raises awareness about the threat of chemical sunscreens to the health of coral reefs and the abundance of mineral sunscreen alternatives.

“We are abundantly grateful to the governor for taking first steps to protect coral reefs from the threats of chemical sunscreens,” states All Good Founder and CEO, Caroline Duell. “This is a victory for Hawaii and the entire country, but the fight is not over. We must all move away from chemicals sunscreens for the sake of our rivers, lakes and oceans.

All Good expects the chemical-based sunscreen ban to gain momentum throughout the country as communities rally to protect their water-based ecosystems—from creeks and rivers to lakes and reefs.

All Good’s Hawaii-based presence includes availability in 41 retailers throughout the islands from smaller health food stores to larger retailers such as Target and Long’s Drug Stores. They continue to educate locals and visitors at ocean-centric events on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island and Kauai, encouraging attendees to sign their #ReefFriendly Pledge promising use of mineral-based sunscreens.
