American Mountain Guides Association, Outdoor Research and Petzl Launch Tech Video Series

November 23, 2016

Boulder, Colo. (November 23, 2016) – The American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) is releasing a technical video series with its longtime partners Outdoor Research and Petzl. The ten-part series will feature fundamental ice and self-rescue skills.

The first installment, “Sharpening Tools,” was released November 22 and hosted on the AMGA Blog. AMGA Instructor Team Member, Patrick Ormond, who has been guiding since 2001 and instructing for the AMGA since 2015, is the series host.

Ormond will demonstrate a variety of skills ranging from placing ice screws to rappelling techniques. The videos, to be released each week, will be an on-demand resource for viewers.

“The videos showcase the AMGA’s core values of education, instruction and community,” said Dana Richardson, strategic partnership manager for AMGA. ”Even if you’re a seasoned mountaineer, these videos can be a great way to keep skills sharp, ensuring a great climbing or skiing experience. We’re grateful to leverage the knowledge and industry standard products from Outdoor Research and Petzl.”

Since its beginning, Outdoor Research has emphasized the importance of entering and returning safely from mountain experiences. This is the brand’s third collaboration with AMGA’s technical skills video series. “With each skill series, there is valuable information for all levels of climbers and skiers,” said Christian Folk, brand manager at Outdoor Research. “The AMGA, the authority on mountain hard skills, is a great partner for us to help bring these skills to life.”

“Petzl is a proud partner of AMGA and its mission to support the American mountain guiding and climbing instructor community via education and certification,” said Dave Hugar, marketing director at Petzl. “We look forward to working together to educate future generations of climbers.”

The AMGA maintains the high standards expected in American guiding and climbing instruction. They offer more than 200 internationally recognized training courses, exams and certifications designed to certify guides, climbing instructors and accredit climbing and skiing services.
