AMGA Partners with Sterling to Create the Craig Luebben Education Fund

May 30, 2017

In honor of Sterling Team Athlete and AMGA Guide Craig Luebben, Sterling initiates fundraising to help the future generation of guides offset the cost of certification.

Biddeford, ME – With a goal of $25,000 by the end of 2018 and $50,000 by 2019, the 10-year anniversary of Luebben’s death, Sterling will kick-off the fundraising with a match initiative to encourage others to donate.

“Craig was a long-time Sterling Ambassador who not only helped us test new ropes, he also spread Sterling’s good will wherever he went,” says Carolyn Brodsky, President of Sterling. “He delighted Sterling employees with his wonderful slide shows and stories. His presence is greatly missed.”

In August of 2009, the AMGA community, Sterling and the climbing world suffered a tremendous loss in the death of Craig Luebben. Craig was an exceptional AMGA Instructor Pool Member, Certified Rock Guide and long-time Sterling Ambassador. He exemplified the ultimate role model as a guide and climber with his strict adherence to AMGA principles, positive attitude and infectious love of the mountains, climbing and life.

Sterling will work with AMGA to promote this new initiative throughout the year at AMGA events and through targeted mailings and communications. This fund will make it possible for the next generation of AMGA guides to further their education and training, with scholarships to cover costs for AMGA Guide Certification, specifically the Rock Guide and Rock Instructor Exams.

“From its beginning to the present, the AMGA has benefited from the spirit of the passionate people and companies who care deeply for the mountain guiding and climbing instructor community.” – Alex Kosseff, Executive Director, AMGA.
