Nar Phu Philanthropy Trek combines volunteer work & world-class trekking

Charlotte, NC – October 21, 2019 – Appalachian Gear Company, an outdoor lifestyle brand specializing in all-natural performance-based clothing and equipment, proudly announces their partnership with Backpacker Magazine and Wildland Trekking for the Nar Phu Philanthropy Trek in Nepal. Participants will join representatives from Backpacker and Appalachian Gear Company to help rebuild schools devastated by a 2015 earthquake, then embark on a 9-day trek through the Nar Phu route in the Himalayan mountains.

In April 2015, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck central Nepal. Hundreds of aftershocks followed the initial quake, and 17 days later, a second major quake struck the region. In total, more than 600,000 structures were damaged or destroyed. More than four years later, work in the region is ongoing to rebuild the communities impacted. Backpacker launched the Nar Phu project in response to the continuing need in a place that has inspired generations of trekkers. Appalachian Gear Company is proud to join those efforts through product donations and construction of local schools with the All Hands and Hearts organization.

“I couldn’t be more excited to roll up my sleeves and help rebuild schools lost to the Nepal earthquakes,” says Lee Trebotich, VP of Marketing and Lead Athlete with Appalachian Gear Company. “This region has always captured my imagination as a world-class climbing destination. Experiencing it with a member of the Backpacker team while giving back something of value was an opportunity Appalachian Gear Company couldn’t pass up.”

“Adventure Philanthropy is the next frontier for Backpacker Magazine, and I’m thrilled that Appalachian Gear Company will be joining us in Nepal,” says Backpacker ambassador Steven Reinhold. “Outfitting our participants in their alpaca apparel is an incredibly heartwarming gesture and the fact that they are joining us to put in work on the ground speaks volumes for their company’s character!”

The Nar Phu Philanthropy Trek will take place November 2-20, with additional trips available in Spring/Summer 2020. For more information, visit Wildland Trekking’s website. To learn more about Appalachian Gear Company, contact Suzanne Hermann at suzanne@darbycommunications.com.
