Woodbury to raise $5,000 to give the gift of camping to 100 under-resourced youth

SPEARFISH, South Dakota (August 1, 2017) – Camp Native Founder David Woodbury departs today for a 4,354-mile bike ride through nine Western states and 82 towns.

Woodbury will visit dozens of Camp Native campsites each week to promote the benefits of camping. He and non-profit partner, Big City Mountaineers, will also raise $5,000 to give the gift of camping to 100 under-resourced youth.

“Our mission at Camp Native is to be the best place in the world to find and reserve a campsite. I felt that without being next to our property owners and campers it would be challenging to accomplish this, so this campaign is about getting to know the challenges that our users face and identify additional ways to deliver a world-class solution,” said Woodbury. “The outdoors can change your life in a good way. I look at this campaign as an opportunity to raise funds to send kids camping for the first time, who may not have the means or opportunity to do so otherwise.”

Woodbury grew up camping in national forests and national parks, started several successful businesses and participated in four different technology accelerators before he worked closely with Spearfish governmental officials to move his Seattle headquarters to the small town, population 11,531.

The decision was one of the best Woodbury’s ever made as it bridged his love for the outdoors with his love for technology. Since then, he’s passionately advocated for driving technology startup businesses in smaller markets across the country where lifestyle is valued as a key performance indicator.

Woodbury will also advocate to dozens of city and state economic officials in smaller Rocky Mountain towns to discuss ways they can lure similar high-paying tech companies away from the West Coast’s tech centers.

He departs Tuesday, August 1 at 7 a.m. from Spearfish to Wyoming where’ll he be chronicling his journey at RideWithWoody.com.
