Climate Neutral Doubles Down on Impact in 2022, Expands Certifications in New Brand Sectors

April 22, 2022

The nonprofit has completed its first certifications of 2022 and announces new partnerships

San Francisco, CA (Apr 22, 2022) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Climate Neutral, the independent nonprofit that administers the Climate Neutral Certified label, is thrilled to announce that Climate Neutral Certified brands are now avoiding, removing, and reducing over one million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. In line with the theme Invest in Our Planet™ for Earth Day 2022, Climate Neutral requires certified companies to demonstrate that they are investing immediately to eliminate carbon emissions. With its latest round of certifications now complete, Climate Neutral tallies a cumulative positive impact of more than two million tonnes of carbon in the three years since its launch.

With its latest new certifications, Climate Neutral has expanded its reach into food and beverage, health and beauty, and home goods brands. Consumers can find the Climate Neutral Certified label on notable brands such as Bud Light NEXT, KORA Organics, and Parachute Home, which have joined the ranks of previously certified, well-recognized brands such as Allbirds, Avocado Green Mattress, and REI Co-op.

“Consumers can be a force for rapid climate action by companies,” says Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral. “With the addition of our latest brands, we’re showing that more and more companies recognize that climate protection is what their customers and employees expect. This year’s Earth Day theme recognizes that corporate action is a must-have – not just a supplement to good policy. And meaningful corporate action requires immediate, measurable investment in low carbon solutions and projects, not just far-off promises.”

With more 2022 certification cycles to come, Climate Neutral is well on its way toward meeting its goal of 500 certified brands by the end of the year. To help scale up its impact, it has doubled its staff, invested in its in-house software tools, and formed new partnerships to achieve growth and greater impact. It has recently announced a partnership to provide a carbon emissions calculation API to Novata, a public benefit corporation that provides the leading private-market ESG data management platform built specifically to help general partners collect data from their portfolio companies. It has also begun working with the Finnish nonprofit, Compensate, to enhance carbon credit screening and selection and help ensure impact from certified brands’ investments in natural climate solutions.

Climate Neutral’s growth and latest round of certifications demonstrate that, despite supply chain challenges and rising carbon credit costs, brands continue to feel a sense of urgency about responding to the climate challenge. With the 2022 Earth Day theme calling for everyone – businesses, governments and citizens – to unite to #investinourplanet, it is time for all brands to #beclimateneutral.
