March 4, 2021

PARK CITY, UT (MARCH 4, 2021) Petzl, SCARPA North America, La Sportiva, Liberty Mountain’s Edelweiss, Singing Rock, Grivel, Beal, Cypher and Kong, and Eldorado Climbing are committed to exhibit at The Big Gear Show’s inaugural show. The invite-only show is North America’s first ever open-air trade fair, expo and demo created by retailers for specialty retailers.

The invite-only show, which is part trade fair, part expo, part gear demo, and part training and education opportunitytakes place in Park City, Utah, August 3-5, 2021. World-class climbing, bouldering and hiking of the Wasatch Mountains frames the expo area, and an Eldorado Climbing wall will be onsite.

With the Olympic debut of indoor climbing occurring just before The Big Gear Show’s kick off, the momentum and participation boom of climbing is expected to grow stronger through COVID. Bringing together business leaders in this focal category of outdoor in the highly unique venue Park City, Utah offers has demand ramping for the show. Hundreds of curated outdoor specialty buyers and a growing list of top-tier manufacturers continue to commit to The Big Gear Show to connect, test and assess their buy and their businesses together.

“Hosting key members of the climbing business community in the special venue of Park City will bring an unmatched opportunity for brands and buyers to chart the course ahead together in their businesses,” said Kenji Haroutunian, Outdoor Show Director of The Big Gear Show. “Buyers and brands are so looking forward to testing products and networking while enjoying the world-class climbing and bouldering in the Wasatch Mountains. Our on-site climbing demo provided by Eldorado Climbing brings even more opportunities to test gear and make informed buying decisions.”

Brand leaders like Kim Miller, CEO of SCARPA North America, are getting the value proposition of The Big Gear Show.

“We’re looking forward to taking part in the first Big Gear Show and we like that this event is taking a curated focus on more technical gear, along with an intimate and accessible format that allows for quality interaction with dealers,” said Miller. “Following a year-plus of not being able to gather as an industry, we look forward to being able to get back to that. And, as we continue to navigate the end of the pandemic, an outdoors venue like this one offers a safer way to gather for now. It also offers the opportunity for climbing walls and other on-site demos.”

The business of outdoor is changing—and booming—and there are little signs of slow-down ahead. Challenges across the specialty business spectrum abound, but the common denominator for both buyers and brands is opportunity. The Big Gear Show takes a nimble approach aiming to deliver what buyers and brands need and avoid everything they don’t. Attendees can look forward to a modernized buy-sell experience and the creation of new best practices to keep specialty retail front and center in the new consumer decision journey.

“The Big Gear Show represents a new approach to helping retailers, both buyers and key employees, better assess which products they want to get behind and support,” said Jon Rockefeller, Managing Director, Sport Division, Petzl. “The idea of providing retailers the chance to try products before they arrive in their store takes what the ski and bike industries have done for years and brings this confidence building program to the rest of our Outdoor Industry gear makers.”

He continued, “Anyone who has ever tested a product prior to purchase knows the value of these experiences, and Petzl sees this as a unique opportunity to enable these valuable individuals to experience the Petzl difference well before the products arrive in store.”

The Big Gear Show is endorsed by the Grassroots Outdoor Alliance, and in the coming weeks, brand-new educational tracks will be presented to frame new best practices for the changing face of business today.
