Coree Woltering Joins UCAN to Fuel his Ultra Goals

February 12, 2021

Woltering takes on the quest to conquer the Arizona Trail and Superior Hiking Trail in record times using UCAN’s revolutionary energy.

Elite Ultrarunner Coree Woltering has officially joined the ranks of Team UCAN as he looks to take his running to the next level and claim Fastest Known Times (FKTs) on both the Arizona Trail (800 miles across Arizona from Mexico to Utah) and the Superior Hiking Trail (310 miles along the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota).

Woltering recently captured the FKT on the Ice Age Trail, an 1,147 mile journey that wanders through the state of Wisconsin, in 21 days 13 hours and 35 minutes. He is known for his unwavering optimism, grit in grueling environments, nighttime running ability, and for encouraging more diversity in the sport of trail running. He has searched far and wide for the right nutrition solution to fuel his epic endeavors and has discovered the ideal product with UCAN.

“After being on the trails for hours on end running things like 100 mile races, I get sick of taking in sugary drinks and gels,” says Woltering. “For the Ice Age FKT, I resorted to eating a strange assortment of foods from gas stations. None of those approaches have been ideal for fueling my body at the level that I’m going for, so I’m really excited to have found UCAN. I used UCAN at the Coldwater Rumble 100 Miler to run one of my fastest times ever. I love that it gives me really long-lasting energy without the sugar overload.”

UCAN was originally created with the purpose of providing energy for a child with a rare condition that prohibits the body from producing its own blood sugar, resulting in frequent and dangerous episodes of hypoglycemia. The mission resulted in the discovery of SuperStarch®, a patented carbohydrate that delivers steady, long-lasting energy without causing a spike and crash and is exceptionally easy on the stomach.

After conducting clinical trials on athletes who work to manage their glucose levels to reduce fatigue and optimize their nutrition, UCAN launched an assortment of sports nutrition products powered by SuperStarch. Many of the world’s top athletes are utilizing UCAN, including the fastest active women’s marathoner Sara Hall, pro triathlete Tim O’Donnell, 2x Olympic Water Polo Gold Medalist Maggie Steffens, and many others who have achieved world-class performances while using it in their training, racing and daily lives.

Woltering, unlike most athletes, dreams for conditions to turn sour. He finds he has a competitive advantage in tough scenarios because he possesses the ability to keep his chin up. When heavy downpours, icy winds, muddy trails and sweltering heat move in, Woltering is in his element, ready to pass the competition.

“Coree’s uncanny ability to persevere and thrive through the toughest of conditions is remarkable.” says Shoba Murali, CEO of UCAN. “UCAN itself was born out of hardship. Both Coree and UCAN exemplify the good that can come from overcoming challenges.”
