Deuter streamlines, re-launches its vaunted Kid Comfort carriers for Spring 2019

March 13, 2019

The new line includes ventilated suspension, integrated daypack and a women’s specific carrier

LONGMONT, Colorado – Instilling a love of the outdoors in the next generation is easier than ever with a re-engineered line of three new Kid Comfort carriers, plus a women’s specific option from Deuter.

Named the best baby hiking backpack by Wirecutter, The New York Times’ consumer review arm, Deuter’s redesigned Kid Comfort carriers offer improved suspension systems for both kids and adults, with refined feature sets that address a full range of adventure parenting needs. All Kid Comfort models continue to be certified according to the rigorous child safety standards of the American Society for Testing and Materials and TUV.

Anchoring the trio of carriers is the new Kid Comfort, which benefits from an upgraded Aircomfort Back System with cool mesh suspension to keep both kids and parents ventilated and comfortable. Along with a VariFlex Ergonomic Comfort Lock hip belt designed by orthopedic physicians in Germany, the new back system is derived from Deuter’s ground-breaking, premium hiking pack, the Futura Vario. VariSlide Adjustment allows for easy, one-touch torso length adjustment for adults, while kids get a height-adjustable, ergonomic seat and foot stirrups. An included sun roof is quick to deploy or stow away. Kid Comfort MSRP is $290.

The top-of-the-line Kid Comfort Pro incorporates all the features of Kid Comfort with the addition of an integrated day pack and a pronounced, extra-tall, high-back padded cockpit for kids. MSRP is $330.

“We call this new Kid Comfort Pro ‘the throne,’ because it’s far and away the most spacious and luxurious ride available for the little ones,” said Deuter USA President Bill Hartrampf. “The integrated day pack gives parents the freedom to take excursions without leaving behind all the essentials that come along with small kids: you can leave the carrier in a safe place, but still have the daypack when you decide to splash around in the brook, grab a bite in a restaurant or head to the changing room.”

The lightest and sleekest of the three new carriers, Kid Comfort Active, weighs under 6 pounds. Developed in partnership with Hike It Baby, Kid Comfort Active SL is the first full-frame kid carrier to be offered in a women’s specific fit, with a shorter torso length, narrower and more S-shaped shoulder straps and a more conical hip belt. Kid Comfort Active models feature Deuter’s Lite Back System, which is structured to enhance ventilation and adjustable for a range of torso lengths using Deuter’s VariQuick system. MSRP is $240.

All three models benefit from an extra-broad, locking aluminum kick stand that resists tipping over while loading up squirmy toddlers.
