June 28, 2023

Falconer 2Vi® Mips and Bushwhacker 2Vi® Mips Helmets Among Leaders

BOULDER, CO – June, 2023/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Sweet Protection, the industry leader in high-performance helmets, goggles and technical clothing, announced today that five of its acclaimed bike helmet models have been named among the safest helmets on the market, currently tested by the renowned Virginia Tech Biomechanics Helmet Lab.

The new Falconer 2Vi® Mips Helmet leads the way for Sweet Protection in the latest safety ratings, placing second overall out of nearly 200 helmets tested. Originally released in March, the Falconer 2Vi® Mips Helmet received a five-star rating by the Virginia Tech Biomechanics Helmet Lab, which impact-tests helmets to evaluate their ability to reduce linear acceleration and rotational velocity of the head resulting from a range of impacts a cyclist might experience.

“We’re currently on the podium in every single of our categories: Road bike, Mountain bike, Snow, and White Water,” said Ståle Norman Møller, Co-Founder and Head of Products at Sweet Protection. “We are extremely proud of what we’ve been able to achieve.”

The new Falconer Aero 2Vi® Mips Helmet (right) also received a five-star rating and finished ninth overall. The Falconer Aero 2Vi® Mips is Sweet Protection’s most advanced road cycling helmet developed with the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team to deliver aerodynamic performance, optimum comfort and enhanced protection in a seriously fast and lightweight package.

The Falconer 2Vi® Mips is a lighter variant with two additional vents for providing optimum airflow and comfort on warmer days. The helmet features the 360 Occigrip Fit System for easy on the fly adjustments and seamless integration with Sweet Protection eyewear.

Another new Sweet Protection helmet for Spring 2023, the Bushwhacker 2Vi® Mips, earned a five-star safety rating and was named on the top mountain bike helmets tested. The Bushwhacker 2Vi® Mips (above) is Sweet Protection’s flagship mountain bike helmet, offering increased coverage and ventilation, and eyewear integration. It is also triple certified, including the NTA 8776 standard for e-bike helmets.

Sweet Protection also landed a new helmet in the top five in the Urban category, with the new Promuter Mips helmet finishing with a five-star rating. Released for the Spring 2023 season, the Promuter Mips delivers style and safety without compromise for the modern commuter. From Monday to Sunday, sunset to sunrise, the Promuter Mips helmet is designed to handle anything the urban environment throws at it.

Sweet Protection’s Trailblazer Mips helmet rounded out the company’s strong showing in the Virginia Tech ratings, placing second among all mountain bike helmets tested, with a five-star safety rating. The Trailblazer Mips helmet provides strength and performance with its unique 4-piece variable shell construction and has been regularly acknowledged as one of the safest helmets on the market after receiving the best rating of any helmet tested by the Virginia Tech Biomechanics Helmet Lab in 2021.

“The VT Helmet Lab has been researching concussions and helmet performance for 15 years. Ten years ago we came out with our patented STAR Rating system. These STAR ratings are really important because they supplement the pass/fair certifications with real-world helmet evaluations that inform consumers on the relative differences between helmet models,” said Dr. Barry Miller, Director of the Outreach Helmet Lab. “Additionally, by creating a STAR rating system for a given sport it provides the helmet manufacturers with a blueprint for further improving helmets.”
