Flambeau Outdoors updates signature trunk-style tackle boxes, still proudly made in the USA

June 29, 2017

MIDDLEFIELD, OHIO – Seventy years ago, two brothers in northern Wisconsin started a company built on a homemade injection molding machine and a love of the outdoors. To celebrate 70 years of tradition and innovation in the fishing industry, Flambeau Outdoors is releasing a new and improved iteration of its traditional trunk-style tackle boxes, made by Americans, for Americans, in the USA.

In the early 1960s, Flambeau Outdoors was among the first to make injection molded fishing tackle boxes, a marked improvement over the rust-prone metal boxes that prevailed at the time. New ways to store and organize fishing tackle come and go, but around the world, molded cantilever trunk boxes are still the most recognizable and ubiquitous.

“Fishing is a cornerstone of the outdoor experience for many Americans, and there’s nowhere better to build the gear that anglers need than here, in our Middlefield, OH, and Columbus, IN, facilities,” said President of Flambeau, Inc., Jason Sauey. “For more than 50 years, buying a tackle box from Flambeau has meant you’re supporting American workers and families. We’re proud to be able to say that tradition continues today.”

Classic Series tackle boxes, available with one, two or three trays, feature a rugged, rigid construction. Tackle trays accept dividers for customizable storage, and all models include externally accessible flip-top lid storage for quick access to necessities. Secure main latch engages decisively into place, and locking hasps allow anglers to keep prying eyes away from top-secret baits and sharp hooks.

“This is a tackle box that people will hand down to their grandkids,” said Flambeau Outdoors Marketing Director Kim Norton. “We’re constantly pushing to make a better product, to keep modernizing. That goes for these Classic Series tackle boxes and for everything Flambeau makes.”

Initially available in red, green and blue, Classic Series boxes will also be offered in Frost Series colors, with special edition Pink Ribbon (proceeds to benefit breast cancer awareness) and Kids Adventure versions. Available September 1, 2017.

The trunk-style cantilever box is the original tackle box, purpose-built for anglers. Flambeau Outdoors’ new Classic series carries on the tradition with a modern take that’s sure to stand the test of time.
