Four Paws and Two Wheels: Xtracycle Partners with World-Traveling Dogpacker to Create the Ultimate Adventure Cargo Bike
June 15, 2025

John Freeman, alongside pup Mira, set to embark on a 2745-mile Tour Divide challenge with custom OmniTierra cargo solution
MILL VALLEY, CA (June 13, 2025) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Xtracycle, the pioneering force in cargo bikes for more than 25 years, announces partnership with OmniTierra founder John Freeman and his canine co-pilot Mira, who are currently on a six-year bikepacking journey around the world. The collaborative efforts resulted in the highly specialized OmniTierra cargo bike designed to meet the extreme demands of long-distance adventure cycling with a four-legged friend, and will be put to the test on the 2,745 mile Tour Divide Race from Banff, Alberta Canada to the US-Mexico border that kicks off today, June 13th. This marks a return for Freeman and Mira after setting a course record for dogpackers (human/dog team) in 2023.
Freeman brings a wealth of touring experience through some of the most remote and challenging parts of the world. His unique perspective offered a well-informed brief for what a new type of cargo bike could be, meeting the high standards to support his and Mira’s needs, but also for other self-supported bikepackers carrying their own precious cargo.
“To access the places Mira and I share in our content, we are presented with diverse environmental, elevation, gear, and terrain challenges,” said Freeman. “The bike I ride is our most essential tool. Xtracycle’s deep expertise in cargo bikes made them the obvious partner, and there is no better place to launch this bike than on the Tour Divide.”
Freeman was initially introduced to Xtracycle through its sister company Priority Bicycles and longtime collaborator Ryan Van Duzer, whose proven experience with Pinion and Gates drivetrains on Priority Adventure models helped shape the OmniTierra build alongside Xtracycle’s 25 years cargo bike development.
“It’s an exciting challenge to design a bicycle for such a specific use case,” said Steve Zourntos, General Manager at Xtracycle. “It gets us back to our roots of solving transportation challenges in demanding environments. John’s requirements pushed our design capabilities and reminded us why we got into this business in the first place – to create bicycles that truly expand what’s possible on two wheels.”
The OmniTierra Xtracycle is a titanium mid-tail cargo model with custom titanium rear rack. Key features include:

“Though built for John & Mira’s very specific needs, we found that the resulting mid-tail format, capable of long distance, low maintenance, high cargo touring, has use for a lot of riders,” said Zourntos. “Following the Tour Divide, we will gather final learnings to make the OmniTierra available for the public.”
Follow along with John & Mira as they head out with the Tour Divide’s Grand Depart on Friday, June 13th, on Strava and the OmniTierra YouTube page. The OmniTierra Xtracycle will be available as a limited custom offering, interested riders can sign up to stay informed.

About John Freeman and Mira
John and his dog Mira share their travels on YouTube and Instagram, riding mostly dirt roads and rugged tracks through some of the more remote parts of the world. With a long background in mountain safety and expedition work, John brings a steady, practical mindset to the ride. Mira – part Border Collie, part Heeler – adds the energy, humor, and heart that keep the journey honest and full of life. In 2023, they set the fastest known time for a dogpacking team on the Tour Divide. This year, they’re going back – testing themselves again on the same legendary route, this time aboard a prototype mid-tail expedition rig built by Xtracycle. This project isn’t about stunts or making statements. It’s about choosing challenge, staying connected to what matters, and moving through the world with purpose – without missing the beauty along the way.
