December 15, 2023

Colorado Company Rose From Modest Beginnings to Global Leader

(BOULDER, CO – DECEMBER 15, 2023) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Headsweats, a Colorado company founded by a devoted cyclist with a product line that initially consisted of just one cotton hat, is proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary this year as an industry leader in developing ultra-light, supremely wicking performance headwear and performance apparel for running, cycling, and a variety of sports.

Founded in 1998 by shoe industry veteran Alan Romick with the goal of helping fellow cyclists fend off heavy sweat blindness, migrating sunscreen, and sunburn, Headsweats originally offered just The Cotton Classic, its first foray into the headwear industry. But the Cotton Classic soon found a following among cyclists, and the company found a growing fanbase after one of its signature pieces appeared in a photograph of a Tour de France rider on the front of the the New York Times sports section.

Athletes wearing Headsweats apparel were soon crowned champions of Ironman Kona, The Head of the Charles Regatta, countless marathons and bike races around the world, and Headsweats would eventually sign a deal to provide cycling fans in the United States and Australia with the official hat of the Tour de France. Headsweats has also served as an official sponsor of NBCSN’s Tour de France coverage.

Headsweats currently offers more than 17 different products available in over 140 different colors and styles, including performance headwear favored by cyclists, runners, and triathletes all over the world. The company provides high quality headwear and apparel to retail distributors throughout the United States, and offers a variety of hats, visors and headbands for a variety of activities, and has served as the official headwear sponsor of US Open Pickleball for each of the past three years.

Headsweats is a subsidiary of Intradeco Apparel, a global manufacturing company committed to becoming an industry leader in sustainable manufacturing and a recipient at the Fifth Annual REPREVE® Champions of Sustainability Awards in 2022. All Headsweats products are made with REPREVE® recycled performance fibers, and the company is proud to have played a part in Intradeco Apparel’s transformation of more than 50 million recycled plastic bottles into performance apparel last year.

Headsweats recently opened its own hat and apparel factory in Central America to serve its customers with the best quality and service, while remaining committed to sustainability and fair labor practices.

The company also recently created a fast response center in Atlanta for hat and apparel customization, and expects to launch new products with new technology in 2024.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 25 years of Headsweats, a journey that has been defined by passion, perseverance, and a commitment to delivering the best in headgear and apparel,” said Oscar Zuleta, General Manager at Headsweats. “Our success is a testament to the incredible support from our loyal customers and the dedication of our team. As we reflect on our past achievements, we look forward to a future filled with continued innovation and a steadfast commitment to the needs of our community.”
