LAKE TAHOE, Nev. /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Today, Mountain Gazette is proud to announce a new creative partnership with West Coast jam torchbearers Grateful Shred. The collaboration includes two special performances this year: June 5 at the Crystal Bay Casino Crown Room in Crystal Bay, NV, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, and a Halloween show on October 31 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, co-presented with Relix Magazine.

“It’s no secret I love the music of the Grateful Dead,” said Mountain Gazette Editor Mike Rogge. “When Eric Mayers reached out about working with Grateful Shred, a high-impact, core Dead tribute band, we jumped at the chance. This is an opportunity to bring our mountain town audience together in Tahoe and later this fall in New York for a real good time. We’re proud to be presenting the Tahoe show and also presenting alongside Relix at The Capitol Theatre.”

Both shows will feature custom posters designed by longtime Mountain Gazette collaborator and cult-favorite artist The Dead Dirtbag (Mike Handzlik), whose gritty, surreal visuals have become a signature across the outdoor and jam band scenes.

The collaboration comes on the heels of Grateful Shred’s announcement of their debut studio album, Might As Well, out June 6 via their independent imprint, Liberty Hair Farm Records.

The full-length album reimagines songs the Grateful Dead never recorded in the studio. Known for their improvisational fire and sun-soaked spins on Dead favorites, the band’s spring-summer tour is underway and will mark the album’s release with a two-night run at San Francisco’s The Independent (June 6-7).

“My first conversation with Mike Rogge felt like my five hundredth,” said Eric Mayers, manager of Grateful Shred. “There was a palpable synergy, and it was clear that we walk similar paths. Partnering with Mountain Gazette in Crystal Bay and on Halloween Night in Port Chester is a dream. Organically connecting outdoor enthusiasts and the greater Deadhead community via Grateful Shred and Relix is super exciting. We’re all looking forward to being in Tahoe, The Capitol Theatre and more in the future.”

Tickets for the June 5 show are on sale now via gratefulshredmusic.com, with Halloween tickets going on sale soon. Finalized artwork for each show will be revealed exclusively via the Grateful Shred’s channels. Images are available here.
