Mountain Hardwear Expands Stretchdown™ Collection for Fall/Winter 2021

August 11, 2021

All-new Stretchdown™ Light Pullover and Jacket, Parka and Pant provide varying weight and baffle offerings

Richmond, Calif. (August 11, 2021) – Mountain Hardwear, a leader in performance equipment and apparel for climbers, mountaineers, and athletes, has expanded its Stretchdown™ Collection. Four new styles were added to the signature line including the Stretchdown Light Pullover and Jacket, the Stretchdown Parka and Stretchdown Pant, each available in men’s and women’s. The Stretchdown Light Pullover and Jacket, Parka and Pant are each constructed with bluesign® approved, 700-fill RDS-certified down insulation. Through three distinct baffle patterns – small, medium and large – Stretchdown is now offered in multiple weights, accommodating for differences in climate, activity and use.

“Through the innovative Stretchdown double weave fabric, our product development team has produced a groundbreaking collection of climb-inspired apparel that is prepared for the summit, backcountry hut, or your everyday apres,” said Brittany Beratlis, Senior Product Manager, Apparel. “Stretchdown has come a long way since it was first launched five years ago. We couldn’t be more excited to be offering a total of six styles in our Stretchdown Collection for both men and women, respectively.”

The Stretchdown Light Pullover is the first lightweight version in the Stretchdown line featuring the smallest scale baffle size and is the most packable of the collection. Made of pockets of the 700-fill Responsible Down Standard-certified insulation in an ultra-engineered construction to combine warmth and movement for a full range of activities. A minimal trim set reduces bulk and a more athletic silhouette makes the small baffle perfect for cold days when mobility and durability are critical. The pullover features exclusive stretch-woven fabric for incredible, durable stretch, a three-piece hood for the perfect fit, and a 1/4 zip. $240 MSRP

Warmer, but without the bulk, the Stretchdown Parka is designed with an expanded scale baffle sizing which allows for even greater loft and results in the most protective silhouette in the collection. Constructed out of the same durable material blend, the Stretchdown Parka remains agile enough for a mix of outdoor activities while packing in 700-fill RDS-certified down insulation for unrivaled warmth. The Stretchdown Parka weighs in at 23.5-25.6 ounces (665-744.5 grams). $325 MSRP.

Designed to be worn over base layers, under a waterproof shell and around the campsite, the Stretchdown Pant provides the same 700-fill down insulation as the rest of the collection, weighing in at 12 oz (340 grams). An integrated webbed belt allows for a comfortable fit coupled with the double weave stretch fabric for full range of movement. $250 MSRP.

Beginning with the Stretchdown Jacket, Mountain Hardwear introduced the first product line to take a stretch fabric and weave the outer and inner fabrics along with the baffling from a single material, eliminating the need for constricting stitches or glue. By removing stitches and glue, Stretchdown offers:

  • Full range of mobility
  • Increased durability
  • No feather leakage
  • No heat escape
  • No toxic glues
  • Fewer cold spots and down migration

Along with expanding the Stretchdown Collection, Mountain Hardwear is introducing multiple layering and lifestyle options this fall, including: the AirMesh™ Hoody and Chockstone™ Warm Pant.

The AirMesh Hoody is made with a unique active mesh consisting of hollow, tube-like fibers with radial extensions that absorb sweat, support insulation, and feature quick-drying capabilities – all while reducing weight by half compared to yarns of comparable thickness. $85 MSRP.

The women’s Chockstone Warm Pant includes a first-of-its-kind belt system where the strap is concealed within the softshell at the waist to eliminate bulk and snagging, and is designed with an extra warm, durable brushed back fabric. $129 MSRP.

Featuring UPF 50 fabric to filter out harsh UV rays and a soft, wicking stretch fabric to pull sweat away from the body, the Mountain Stretch collection is versatile and technical.

The AirMesh Hoody and Chockstone Warm Pant will be available as of August 16 on www.mountainhardwear.com
